Apple Carplay Options and Experiance ?

Hi all, I guess this is a hot topic these days.

I'm looking to upgrade the connectivity on my 2014 AB. I saw Harry Metcalf talk about a "plug and play" device he fitted into his Project 8, basically the same head unit I beleive.

Have any of you bought one of these types of devices and what's your opinion, as good as they say ?... or hugely compramised ?

The one I've linked below seems to tick all the boxes

https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wireless-a...port-l494/

Thanks, Karl

You put the original post up, I tried the link but got a 404 error

Geoff put a link up that works...

Stan is the moderator on here and he has fitted a screen to his 405...

I think Cam Tech Craig has fitted one as well...

Maybe try the search feature... Thumbs Up Pete

my separate unit like geoffs [above] has been recently used on a 10 day journey to the south of france and back...the only time it kinda failed me was in a long tunnel where it lost the phone gps signal for around 10 seconds but recovered very quickly..

the reason i've gone for the add-on unit is that the main screen isnt compromised and can still be used normally..i like to have the FF screen with an overview map on the sat nav, whilst the add-on unit does the directions..

its easy to mount onto the front vents and can be removed if or when i sell the FF.

i used google maps as i could load up poi's on my phone which transferred onto the unit..

Stan,

Your installation look neater than mine (although its in the same place) so I am tidying it up, I think I'll use the CD slot which means it will be lower but when was the last time anyone inserted a CD. I have a quick question however do you use the speaker in the unit or AUX in through the car.?

i use the units speaker as that allows me to listen to dab etc at the same time and i find it perfectly loud enough...

also, you can get google to read out whatsapp messages and use voice to reply...
