Mandatory Sound System Downgrades

Dealers have been advised of the following forced sound system downgrades for all orders:

    1. First Edition and Autobiography models are being downgraded from Meridian Signature to Meridian 3D
    2. HSE is being downgraded to the standard Meridian Sound System

SV is exempt from these changes and still being built with the Signature Sound System. As an aside, the new RRS is now only available with the standard sound system regardless of model!

Clearly not great for those with outstanding orders for HSE, AB and FE and I have asked my dealer if we can wait for our next Autobiography car until this is available again. This they are unsure on.

Would advise getting in touch with your dealers if you still are expecting an order as I believe if these changes aren't accepted, the only option is to cancel your car.

Whilst i can accept the chip shortage is causing supply issues, I think it is outrageous of JLR not to offer some form of compensation. Surely this downgrade will be saving them thousands and quite frankly what will be the next technology removed from spec. Those with outstanding orders are already having to suck up a huge price increase and to now get a downgraded model spec is both frustrating and insulting. Seriously contemplating cancelling my HSE order. I only hope they do a u turn when they see their sales pipeline drop off...

The US forums say that owners that side of the Atlantic are being offered c.$1000.

However,

The cost option on a HSE to go from 3D to Signature was over £4k!

This is annoying especially if they don’t compensate either with choice of alternate options or price reduction. Otherwise it’s a price increase by stealth? MY23 PHEV HSE

Well they are going to have to redesign the brochure as p.2 copy states "With compelling design
and greater levels of elegance, exclusivity and luxury, it leads by example." not sure this is now the case and may border on misleading information under The Trade Descriptions Act!

A luxury SUV costing in excess of 100K with a bog standard sound system - come on JLR?

I wouldn't mind so much had I not read how good the top spec system is on this forum!

This is very frustrating and disappointing. Thanks for the update - it's more than I receive from my dealer! 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

This is a seriously big downgrade and this isn’t to rub it in. I simply wouldn’t take delivery of another car without it having experienced the quality of this sound system. The noise cancellation is a game changer.

Correct. The 3D has ‘low’ noise cancellation (vs. ‘High’ on the Signature) but nothing in the headrests which is the game changer part. In the HSE I test drove, I couldn’t tell there was any noise cancellation going on.

No noise cancellation at all on SE and HSE now, not even as an option.

As this has not been communicated to me by my dealer, I assume I would be within my rights to cancel my order and get my deposit back if it turns up not in the spec I ordered?

I don't think I want it with bits of the spec missing and a price increase as well. If it ever turns up and there is still a premium in the market I will just sell it on. Otherwise I will cancel.

You are 100% within your rights to cancel. To be honest, deposits are very very difficult to enforce in a non-refundable fashion anyway. The dealer wouldn’t be able to demonstrate any loss by you cancelling your order. Exception could be if you’ve ordered the car in an undesirable colour/spec.

I don’t see why JLR can’t just hold a customer’s place in the queue until the parts become available to fulfil their order, if the customer wants to wait, or give them the available spec if they don’t want to wait.

Exactly, I'm at the stage where I'd rather wait until the car I ordered is able to be built. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB
