Hello All,

In a couple of weeks I'll be going North again, through Sweden and Finland into Norway.
This time of year it will be dark there a lot of the time so one needs extra light, lots of extra light.
In fact, one can not have enough extra lights
Having used Hella LED lightbars last year I decided to go for the 'Kiruna Kit', as they call it in Sweden.
2X Hella Rallye 3003 LED, ref 50 (and one LED lightbar from last year)
This is how it looks from inside the car.
(I have to say it doesn't show the extra light too well in the pictures)

The LED bar light spot I found to be too narrow, especially vertically.
Horizontal spot was ok-ish.
The adjustment of the Hella lightbar was also quite difficult.
You have to undo the whole support bracket to be able to rotate it up or down and then everything is so loose you can't really see where it will be when everything is tight again.

The 3003's shine about 200m further.

I've found the light bars great for wide area illumination but not so great at range, the problem with snow is that there is a lot of reflection, so sometimes too much floodlighting can work against you as the glare prevents you seeing what the spotlights are picking up further ahead. Long range spots are great but need setting up carefully, I used Lightforce 240's with the HiD conversion kit, once you have the spot 'ranged in' , you can adjust the reflector to give you anything between full spot to full flood as conditions dictate. I used them for many years from Saharan Africa all the way up to Suomi Finland, The only reason I don't use them now is they were stolen (very carefully) from the front of my car, they managed to leave the HiD ballasts behind though....

Here's a short video of how the extra lights perform.
The 3003's could be a bit higher but the bracket doesn't allow it, the slot needs to be bit longer.
But it's ok.

I'm very impressed with those!
As you say, they need to be slightly higher to improve the range, but not by much. A job for the Dremel when you get home

Unfortunately I don't get as far afield as I used to so the HiD's will have to do for now, I'm thinking of putting some mini LED bars behind the grille to give the high beam flash a bit of 'punch'...

Here in Norway it's nice to be able to light up the road, but just as important also the terrain where there are lots of big animals like deer and moose lurking in the dark. Ready to jump on any incoming drivers.

It's not the best idea to use the roof lights when it's snowing, due to the hypnotizing effect of big white flakes coming straight at your eyes.

Only thing is to remember to dim down early enough to not blow the eyes out of incoming driveres

As I still have another lightbar I'm thinking to put it above the other one and point the two Ralleys a bit more to the edges of the road, to, as ikjos said, be able to spot animals at the side ready to step onto the road.
One can not have too much light!
