 Many thanks JayGee for the precise description on this job. Its a "restrictive space" for the plug mentioned but your comments have given me confidence to try that plug again. I did put a little silicone spray to it when last looked at it which will help.  I'm glad that I didn't try to force it and think you might add an update  when you try the new size O rings you ordered out.

I ended up getting a really tight fit with no less than 5 O rings (75x3). I also re-seated the green seal in the elbow before refitting - omitting the plastic ring as suggested. The whole thing now feels solid. There’s no movement whatsoever and initial tests would suggest it’s tight as a badger’s.
