XC60

Planning for a post L322 world ( Big Cry ). Need 4x4 and ground clearance for getting off tarmac occasionally but 99% of the time a comfy M-Way long distance cruiser. Has to be ULEZ compliant so looking at the D5 2016/2017 XC60 in SE Lux Nav spec (don't want the harsher R spec ride). I'd ideally have the MK2 MY17on but the prices are £30k vs £20k for the earlier ones so it may well mean I keep the L322 longer and wait for the MK2's to drop in price a bit. I had one of the last of the old model and I absolutely loved it, it was a company wagon after my old XC90 - which was also a fantastic car. I did 15,000 a year in it and it only ever had routine servicing - I put General Grabber AT2’s on it when I got it new from the dealer and they were still ok 60,000 miles later

Used it on motorways, on site - snow, mud, water - no problem - very underrated car.

My brother has been running an XC60 - The fancy sporty version for a good few years now, it has been quite reliable and is still going strong, if his next car is not an EV, he may well buy a later model of the same car.
I have ridden in it and even though it is the sporty version, the ride is still very comfortable.

When I sold my TDV8 AB in the spring I replaced it with a XC60 PHEV on subscription, new car so not a direct comparison for you.

It is "nice" but it kinda depends what you want. Even though it is a 10 year newer car and on air suspension (top of the range model) it is nowhere near the ride quality of the FFRR. It is also noisier and just doesn't have the sense of occasion - all of which I guess is predictable.

It is full of tech but actually mine (22MY) isn't as good as the 21MY as they upgraded from Android auto to the gull GAS (Google Automotive Services) and it has nowhere near the connectivity and functionality as the previous 21MY set up

Overall I have to say i am quite disappointed, it is a perfectly "nice" car but just doesn't create any emotion Sad

If the availability and reliability was any better I would be getting a P440e RRS or FFRR as I buy through work and the BIK on PHEV's makes a real difference.

As it is I will keep it until availability on competitors picks up, as it is on subscription I can cancel at 3 months notice.

It is perfectly comfortable, safe and a decent way to travel and as a mid range SUV a sensible option, but just no emotional bond Big Cry

Cheers,

Paul. 2011 TDV8 AB

I'm kind of looking forwards to not having an emotional connection with a car.... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Buy a Toyota prius - that should kill any possible emotional attachment to a vehicle Jay.

A Prius would invoke hate which is the other kind of emotion I don't want 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Netherlands 2008 Range Rover Autobiography 4.2 SC V8 Lucerne Green

Hi Jay,
Ive trade , last spring, my 2008 4.2sc in for a late 2017 XC60 t5
So thats just the new 2 serie.
And yes its not a RR but its absolute not a punishment to drive it.
I like the XC60 a lot. The XC60 have everything the RR have, and more, except being a RR. And not unimportant, the Volvo, here in Holland is €4500 a year cheaper to drive than the RR. If doing 10k miles a year.
I’am very happy with the xC60. Power and weight wise the are the
same. She puls the 1500kg caravan as a lion and that for half
the liters of petrol compare the RR.
So if you ask me…….I like the RR more but the are much to
expensive and unreliable for the money I want to spent on a
car for me. And than the XC60 is a very very nice alternative.

The more I research this the more I'm convinced to keep the L322 a bit longer and get the XC60 MK2 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The two last images are a good comparison looks wise.

The L322 looks a little "boxy" & maybe a little old fashioned. However, it has classic looks & is instantly recognisable as a Range Rover.

The Volvo on the other hand just looks like most of the other so called SUV's out there. It may be a good car, it may be better than a RR but it will never have the "it" factor or a RR.

& of course nothing is quite like a RR for sheer presence & all round versitallity (xcepot when it's "broke").

The XC60 is an SUV - the L322 is a 4x4. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

If you would consider an early D5, why not upgrade from that to a late D4?
