With the changes to working practices since the pandemic, my need for fuel efficiency and reliability has reduced significantly - so I have bought a Range Rover

Taking it into Landranger Deeside on Thursday for a once over to determine whether or not it is a lemon.

With full service history and 94k on a TDV8 I am optimistic that it is good - but getting an expert opinion feels like the prudent move. From there I intend to get oil changed in engine, gearbox, and diffs as a preventative measure.

Niggles so far are a blocked near side screen washer, blocked rear screen washer, a rear wiper blade that barely touches the screen, and a missing wheel brace (replacement ordered from eBay)

Welcome along That seems a perfectly logical way of justifying a Range Rover!

The rear screen washer not working is likely to be the one way valve in the tailgate that’s causing your problem. A lot of people just remove it but it then takes forever to get screen wash to the rear screen so I always replace them.

Easy to tell if it is though, pop the plastic trim off the inside at the top of the tailgate and you’ll see the valve in the rubber tube, pull it off on the body side of it and operate the pump and you’ll see water pour out.

For your rear wiper, turn the wiper on and with it in mid sweep open the top tailgate. This should stop the wiper so that you can change the blade. Whilst it’s mid screen, soak the pivot point on the arm with something along the lines of PlusGas and work the arm back and forth and it should free it off enough to allow it to start moving freely and rest on the glass properly. Might as well fit a new wiper blade at the same time.

So I had found some oil on my drive and then took it into Neil at Landranger Deeside who showed me that the bell housing and subframe are dripping in oil

The dealer will be coming to collect it on Monday

Oil cooler is "routine maintenance" on a sub 100K motor if it's not been done already. I've not heard of one yet that's not needed one
Insist they change the whole assembly and NOT just the gaskets. They have been known to warp and a new gasket will not fix it!

Some concern that it is something more insidious and keen to exploit my consumer rights if need be (still inside 30days since purchase) but would rather hang on to it.

So had the full fat for around 2 months now. Had a bunch of issues but remind myself that it is an 11 year old car.

Oil Leak - the dealer sorted out the o-rings. Still trying to decide if the leak has gone now. Am getting drips on the drive but perhaps it is oil that is flowing out of the ‘v’

Gear selector - one day it was 50-50 whether I could get in gear; the following no way at all. After some Googling and reading some posts here I concluded that I needed a selector refurb. Dismantled the center console and sent it to ECUTesting. Received back inside a week and worked fine once refitted. Obvs the car was immobile on my drive for the interim.

Battery - A week after the gear selector was refitted the car broke down. Engine light on the way to work that cleared with the Gap tool. Then wouldn’t start after work. An AA call out and a new battery later then all is well.


Let’s see what happens next.
