2010 to 2012 towbar armature VUB503960

Hello all
I am trying to purchase an armature/sub frame for a 2011 model. I know these are out of stock, and I know the earlier ones differ. From looking at second hand pictures, they look similar but pre 2010 look like they have exhaust hangers but later ones don't. So can I just buy an early one and cut the hangers off or is it more complicated than that? 4.4 Diesel by the way. Many thanks. Peter
As an aside, why on earth would Land Rover the most obvious towing vehicle manufacturer make a towing part obsolete after 11 years???

since Horizon Group bought out Westfalia back in 2016, it has been a complete disaster for any parts and stock coming out of the old Westfalia european operations, I doubt relations between JLR and Horizon have been cordial !

https://www.fleetequipmentmag.com/horizon-...a-group-2/

worse than that - Horizon Group also purchased Witter Towbars back in April 2013, and it seems to many that this large American holding company are not sure what brands to push and what stock to hold, my advice is steer well clear, as only last month they doubled all the prices on Westfalia parts to the trade, madness on every level !

@PeterB
The difference with hangers doesn’t create any great problems. Small modification may be required. John

Well I didn't know Westfalia had been taken over, that explains a lot, Horizon group will doubtless only be looking for large scale manufacturing possibilities. I will go down the second hand route them.

I believe it’s the exhaust hangers. If missing on the tow bar you’ll need to grind the, off the existing bits that are removed.
They can then be bolted up along with the tow bar (no welding needed).

Just make sure you don’t get the Westfalia towbar with the straight crossmember like I did. Mine is a 2011 model and it doesn’t fit.

OK many thanks, the Westfalia cross members I have seen are shaped.

As already suggested, just cut the hangers off the bits you remove to fit the armature. They will then be held on with the bolts that you use to attach the armature. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

Thanks, the armature I ordered on ebay had already been cut. The bolt holes had been cut off, cunningly hidden by the angles on the photos. Hopefully get my money back.

You cut your existing hangers off the existing bits you remove to fit the armature.

Then you can simply bolt them onto the armature through those holes in your second picture.

My armature looked exactly like the one in your picture. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

The holes in the second picture are drain holes. The mounting holes have been cut off! Picture of what it should look like, with 2 holes.

At last I have the armature and electrics. My local independent is refusing to fit it as they won't make money on parts etc. The main dealer refused to fit a new one due to possible problems with rusty bolts etc.If I can get a local towbar specialist to fit, will I then need to get the ecu remapped for the rear sensors?
Many thanks. Peter

Mine came off a 2003 MY onto a 2012 MY. It had been a new bar that I purchased and after descaling and fixing the exhaust brackets, I sent to my local wheel refinisher and had it and the detachable tow bar powder coated in the car colour - nice job it is too! Any the main point for my post. I just can't see how the dealer wont fit due to rusty bolts. The attaching bolts are huge, and if they could break them, they must be turning them the wrong way (lol). I would say they are unbreakable, they are something like 16mm bolt diameter. 2012, FFRR Westminster TDV8 - Orkney Grey
