Drivers Electric Head Rest Not Working

Hi all,

I've had my L405 Vogue SE a week or so now and everything appears to work as it should, with one exception.....

The drivers electric head rest doesn't operate at all. I can hear it trying (sounds like a relay or something operating) but the headrest doesn't move. Interestingly, the rest of the seat functionality works as it should.

Any thoughts or experience on what this could be? It's under a warranty - although if it's an easy enough fix I'd rather do it myself than mess around.....

Cheers

Hi Craig,
No, I can't hear a motor whirring when trying to raise or lower - just a slight clicking.

Then it maybe the wiring plug has pulled out of the headrest motor... Not very hard to get at if your willing to strip the back of the seat a little... Thumbs Up

Thanks again.

As it’s a 13MY… Simply remove the lower seat back cover. A couple of lower elastic clips under the seat, I think you need to remove the two side covers to allow the lower back cover to pull outwards clear of the mechanism it clips over. Then the seat back lifts upwards and comes away in your hands! Then move the seat upwards and forwards, then get a torch and lay down behind the seat and look upwards inside the seat and you should see the wiring plug…
If you need to get more access I think you then remove two screws and the upper panel unpicks from the outer of the seat and pulls off…
It’s easier when your in front of the job to understand the above… Trust me 😳🥴🤪😏👍

I had this exact problem with my drivers headrest, click but no movement and was indeed the multiplug had come adrift. I suspect when the seat airbag overlay loom had been installed they failed to clip the loom back into place.

You guys are legends.

I managed to undertake the fix last night following Craig's instructions - it was easier with the seat in front of me Smile

Easy fix - the wiring loom was loose and the head rest now works flawlessly.

I took the very same photo as 4RRS, but I won't bother uploading it now as you beat me to it Smile

One slight (and perhaps unrelated) issue is that on this mornings commute I could hear a spurious audible "beeping" noise that I haven't heard before - I'm hoping that this isn't due to reconnection of the headrest!

Do they all have electric headrests on the drivers side? I have a 2014 Ab and I tried to move it manually but couldn’t, wondering if I’ve missed a button on the seat? 😂

On mine the headrest is moved by pushing the seat back adjuster (on outer edge of seat base) up or down. Yours might have a separate button above the seat back adjuster. Only Range Rovers since 1988
