4.4 TdV8 new turbos?

A couple of friends have recently been looking at getting into a 4.4 TdV8 but when they send me links to different cars I'm seeing "new turbos just fitted" more and more often and some cars under 100k miles. My indy seems to think this is super rare and they've never had one in.
Has anyone had to replace their turbos on the 4.4 and what was the damage? Just curious.

I had the second turbo drain mod done as it started smoking badly. When they had the car stripped down and inspected the second turbo there was excessive play so we took the decision to replace while it was stripped rather than risk a second major job at a later date. The mileage was circa 75k at that time if I remember rightly.
It had been serviced regularly prior to me buying it with a fully stamped service book. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Very rare on the 4.4. Very common on the 3.6.
Main reason for turbo failure is oil starvation due to neglected servicing so if it's killed the turbo's think about how the rest of the car has been similarly neglected. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

As ever, only look for a car like this with bundles of history and proof it has been serviced every year.

Whilst servicing regularly doesn't necessarily prove the car has been well treated, it's a good sign and also means someone on an annual basis has been both replacing the oil and ensuring the level is correct.

Other good signs are people who've owned the car for many years, it has 2 keys, brand of tyres etc.

But yes, very very rare for the turbos to require any work on the 4.4 TDV8. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
