CVD Rear Shock Replacement

Good afternoon,

I will soon be replacing both rear CVD shocks because one is leaking. Should I also replace other components such as the Insulator/Mounting Bracket?

Any tips & hints are welcomed - many thanks,

No, but the instructions say to renew the paper gasket to prevent moisture ingress into the cabin.

HW2 on the diagram.

They are sold as complete units including the mounting bracket. I fitted Bilstein because they were significantly cheaper than genuine LR even though sourced ex UK.

Thanks, guys.

I´m also going to use Bilstein, the cheapest I can source is coming in at €706 for the pair. Lovely. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

I fitted Bilstein. You still need the paper gaskets from LR…. That didn’t come with mine.

Only a few pounds…. Other folk might have had then in their kit of course.

As the gaskets aren't included in the component diagram for the shock I wouldn't expect any genuine or after-market shock to include them.

Just because it's leaking doesn't mean it needs replacing. There is a service buletin about leaks and the need to not be concerned. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks, JayGee,

But this needs to be replaced. As I mentioned in another post, there is an obvious leak (not simply "misting") when the rear driver's wheel encounters a succession of rapid potholes or a poor road surface. The back end will violently drop on that side, causing a dramatic lurch at the front. It feels like the whole car is twisting. It's actually quite scary. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

That's called 'jacking' when the rebound damping is more than the compression damping and the strut effectively shortens. Mine have been damp for the last 2 years / 30K miles but still do their job and are now on 160+k miles 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

i used aerosus recently. worked like a champ.

also transformed my car. mine were so "empty" that you could push the dampers by hand very easily. Its actually a sport Sad

Not anymore, 4.4 TDV8 now Very Happy

Thanks, everyone.

"Jacking" feels like the shock collapses but recovers. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

I've also got leaks and quite a compression rebound in both my rear shocks.

Anyone here in Canada/North Eastern US have a recommendation for a supplier, kindly do share your experience Smile 2012 Supercharged L322
