When I drove my L405 p400e FFRR around town, I used to ensure that the car stayed in EV mode by not accelerating too hard. The power dial (similar to the rev counter in an ICE car) helped in this regard by showing a line above which the engine would kick in.

I'd noticed with the new L460 PHEV that this dial was not visible in any of the dashboard configurations but regardless, I was driving the new car in a similar way as my old car. Very light with the throttle to ensure the engine didn't kick in.

I've now made a few more longer journeys and discovered that in the new car, if you are in EV mode, you can press the accelerator almost all the way to the floor (but not pressing the kick down button) and you will still remain in EV mode. In fact, the acceleration is very impressive!

Incidentally, it's still not 100% clear to me what sort of setting I should use for a longer - say 100 miles - journeys. I've selected Hybrid in the past but then ended up with more than 50% of the battery still available by the time I get to my destination. 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

Surely not. I had in my head that the petrol engine produced 400bhp (as in it's the same engine as that in the P400) and the battery provided the rest. So an additional 150bhp in my p550e (although that sounds and feels lower than what I'm experiencing).

I dont think thats the case. Otherwise I would be getting only 60hp in EV mode and the car would hardly move.

The dealer told me I get 460hp in EV - not sure that is true but the car does shift rapidly regardless.

You'll only get 460hp with the petrol engine and electric motor working together.

The P460e has a 145hp electric motor, so that's all you're getting in EV mode, although the decent amount of torque (450nm) will make it feel quicker than you'd expect a near 3 tonne car with 145hp to feel. The P550e has a bit more power (160hp) but the same torque.

Ev mode is really good on the l460 it's also the fact it uses the gears with a tailored shifting map when in EV only mode to help it feel even better. The 130hp motor feels a lot more for a car of its size and weight. MY23 PHEV HSE

And interesting about the torque - as you say, the bhp doesn't really give the full picture.

Anyone else driven this car as well as the hybrid L405? It's very different in that regard. If ever I accelerated hard in the L405, the engine immediately kicked in.
