Tis very dark where I live (edge of the cotswolds) and I fitted a lightbar behind my grille... Helps tremendously. Ive also fitted a can-bus relay so it only comes on at speeds above 50mph

Oh and to all you LED haters! Technology moves on! 2012-2018 L405 headlamps are dreadful Fact! These can be improved by retro fitting NEWER technology... Simples

FYI Craig I'm not a "LED Hater" (after all only 2% of my lighting spread over my home, workshop & office is non-LED and they are in places like loftspaces & storage cupboards that are rarely acessed so not cost effective to replace until they fail).

What I am against is people that seem to know better than lighting engineers fitting bulbs/lamps/globes into equipment not designed for them in the first place. Even people who otherwise appear to be generally intellegent seem to ignore this fact.

Current lighting fitted to vehicles within the contraints of the stylists has not moved on enough. Yes, technology moves on, but they never seem to perfect each stage before making it available or moving on to the next (look at phones - 3G, 4G & now 5G -whats the betting they will be looking at 6G before we have decent 5G coverage - as an aside, I don't care how many G's my phone has - I just want it to work !)

I would respectfully suggest that people who don't find glare from oncoming vehicles with LED lighting an issue get their own eyes tested (maybe to vocational drivers standards).

Like Craig, I also fitted a light bar behind my grill on my 2016 FFRR. It made a massive difference to the poor standard lighting that the car came with. I also agree upgrading the bulbs is another good option. However, LR clearly realised the lights were poor and the ones on MY2018 are so much better.

Not really wanting to enter into the fray, each to his own, but:
I found the OEM L405 HIDS to be inadequate at much less than the speed limit on unlit country roads as Stan has said. (As we get older, our night vision deteriorates, and what is fine for someone in their 30’s or 40’s may be insufficient for someone in their 60’s or 70’s).
I hate glare and have no wish to annoy others by driving at 30mph in a 60 limit either, so when I fitted my LEDs, I carefully checked them as a pedestrian from about 100m away on a level road, there was no glare, the beam has a very distinct cut-off, I assume due to the projector design, which was introduced to better control the light pattern of the then much brighter HID bulbs replacing the old yellow filament bulbs, and to minimise glare.
As others have said, the same lamps when installed in reflector headlamps will light up the sky in all directions causing glare, and so will light bars, which are illegal on the roads.

Good sense should prevail IMHO, it’s easy to check your own car for glare, then act appropriately.
Unfortunately, nothing is idiot-proof. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Well said Gremlin. I've just put some led's in my L322 and replaced just one side and looked at them from a distance just to check there was no glare compared to the standard bulb. Besides the LED being brighter it was fine.

It does indeed, but that's no reason to cause discomfort to others.

Good idea Stan, I'll start a new thread that will discuss eye tests/aging eyes/night vision & the way LED headlamps, (both OE and conversions) cause glare.

Similar to this one.........

I posted earlier, I have an early l405 and the lights are definitely not as bright as my previous L322s but they are adequate and much better than some other cars I drive. I'm over 70, wear glasses and I don't really like driving at night anymore (regardless of how bright my lights are) as I am often dazzled by oncoming traffic. I talk to others younger than me and they have the same problem, obviously they must have because I am significantly higher up in the Range Rover. Oh to keep on topic if you want a light bar just fit one, those that have them seem pleased, going off topic slightly if you want LEDs just fit them - like many others I just get used to being dazzled and get over it - life's to short. Geoff
