Not much to report. The Most was due this week, it passed with zero advisories.

Next up, service next week. In the mean time it's developed a rattle from the drivers side at low speed. I think there's a loose heat shield that needs attention. I'll either get to it this weekend or I'll ask the garage to do it at the service.

I have exactly the same rattle. My Indy has diagnosed it as the gearing on the high pressure fuel pump.

They say it’s very common and nothing to worry about you can get reconditioned Bosch pumps for approx £250-£300.

The rattle on mine is the DPF heat shield where all of the insulation has deteriorated. I need to either re-pack it or weld it in place so that it no longer rattles.

I assume if it was the fuel pump you’d hear it on idle too.

I'd love to know from where as the lowest I've seen is £800-ish 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

I do hear it on idle. The high pressure fuel pumps are common to a lot of cars, albeit with slightly different part nrs and configurations.

Having had another look on eBay it seems I wasn't seeing the 4.4 TDV8 specifically, so pols for the incorrect pricing, which is much higher.

The RR is in for a service today. I asked them to look at the vibration when braking (warped front disks, nothing serious but will need fixing at some point), the slow coolant leak (another one) and the rattle.

The rattle is the slowly disintegrating exhaust heat shield. They're going to try welding it back up to see if that fixes it and if so for how long. About £100.

The expensive problem is the coolant leak. Apparently its the pipe from the resservoir down to the water pump (from their description, I may have misheard). This is apparently made of platinum judging by the cost of a new pipe. Another nearby pipe is leaking too. That one is only made of silver as its 1/3 the price of the other one.

The total including the service looks like its going to be £,1400. That's without replacing the warped disks, a legacy of my alpine trip back in January. They flagged up some mild corrosion underneath (no surprise there) but no other issues. Hopefully its back with me tomorrow.

Service report at 141,500 miles:
- Service completed, oil and pollen filter.
- Replaced pipework from coolant bottle to thermostat
- Top coolant hose replaced as it had previously been glued
- Welded up the heatshield
- Rear shock absorbers slightly weeping. To be monitored.

£1,493 spent. Hopefully things will quieten down now, both literally and figuratively, and I can have some steady, pain free and low cost motoring for the next year. Or is that hoping for too much given its a RR? :lol

The way I look at it is that I'd need to spend at least £600-£700 per month to get anything near as nice as an L322 on PCP, lease etc. That's say £7k per annum.

If I spend anywhere near half that on maintenance (which would be a heavy year), I'm still quids in AND get to drive a car I absolutely love, rather than a soulless box.

Spend the money and know you're adding value to your car and it will give you a good feeling every time you get your wallet out.

Yup, it wasn't a whinge, it was a statement of fact that hopefully others will pay attention to when they look at that "cheap" FFRR. I agree, this is a great car to roll around in and I'd much rather put the cash into this than a lease payment.
