About time I started a dedicated thread to record what I’m doing on my VSE.

Needless to say I absolutely love it and it has come with it’s fair share of things to sort, but I do love to get my knees deep into a project.

So far I’ve;

Installed DAB+
Had the underside totally wire brushed, rust proofed and all cavities, including sills and subframes liberally sprayed with Dynax S50
Partially restored the seats - updates to follow
Installed a new final stage resistor. I’ve found that a used Sitronic OEM from eBay works much better than the cheap aftermarket
Had all new genuine idlers, pulleys, tensioner and belts fitted to the front of the engine
Installed a genuine Land Rover water pump for good measure
Changed the oil and filter (Smith & Allan)
New genuine Land Rover fuel filter

Todays’s task involved the receipt of my new totally rust free tailgate. This arrived on a pallet and is in excellent condition. It did however come with a clear glass, so I’ll need to swap over the screen from my old tailgate once I’ve sorted this one out.

First job was to dose the whole of the inside of the tailgate with Dynax UC. I had this so it was literally dripping out of every seam and crevice. It sets like candle wax, so doesn’t attract dirt and is non-sticky.

The screen removal tool arrives tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll be able to get the glass off.

Not a bad idea there Jonny putting all your jobs to do in one place, save me jumping from one thread to another lol.
Be careful removing the rear screen, I have no idea how easy it is to do and without breaking it. Maybe worth considering buying some tinted film and doing it that way, better to be safe than sorry. I tinted my old Saab with film years ago, very easy to do and lasted right up until I sold it and beyond.

I paid a windscreen fitter to swap mine over when I did similar on my TD6, years ago.

Been busy recently on various jobs, including the interior. Yesterday I stripped out the blower motor to check why I wasn’t getting a cooled bum. There was some very slight cooling but not what I’d expect.

Turns out the tube had the usual cracks, so repaired them with fibreglass on the inside and outside of the crack and then fabric tape over everything, as the PE plastic doesn’t take any glue/resin products too well.

Popped it back in and all nice and cool.

Pleased that the Peltier units are working, but now means I have 2 Peltier units on the shelf.

Also did some more interior painting and painted both glove box lids with Scratch Doctor Ivory NG. I’d done them previously with a sponge but never got a finish I was happy with, so decided to give the skip find Sealey spray gun a go. It was all gunked up, so stripped it down, cleaned it up and got some very nice results. Did the driver’s side seat valance as well and gave the control panel a blast of Matt black, after masking off.

Today's little job was changing the outer handle release cable. The cable hadn't snapped, but the plastic sleeve that locates into a bracket just by the lock had deteriorated over the years, so there was no resistance.

Simple job in the end, took about 30 mins start to finish and £7.89 for a cable from eBay made it a cheap one as well.

The door handle now opens beautifully, which is very handy when you want to get into the car.

Today’s job was replacing the Peltier module on the driver’s seat. Simple enough job with a bit of soldering to save crimping new spade connectors for the block connector.

I sourced the new unit from AliExprsss for about £27 delivered. For those of you concerned about buying Chinese products, here’s a pic of the old failed unit.

Always nice to see some jobs getting done, especially that you didn’t know about.

The cooled seats have been a godsend in the current hot and humid weather, so well worth doing.

I took a day off today as her indoors and the boy are in Cornwall and it gave me an opportunity to do some Rangey stuff.

Back seats out and stripped down, ahead of refurbing the bases.

Taking the base apart revealed this mess. Why do they let kids in the back of cars ? It’s beyond me.

Also recently completed is the tailgate swap over. I now have a totally rust free rear, aside from some light surface corrosion on the front of the rear arches.
