How can I defend my cars?

The probable answer is I cannot defend my vehicles from the determined thief! I would still like to know how they did it though Question

I stress it is not my L405 but I am still angry and bewildered at the loss of my son's workhorse. The scene is I had just returned about 20:30 on Thursday from 600m round trip in 2015 Transit, simple vehicle not keyless entry type, in my view an excellent van to drive, I stopped at home to off load wife, the bags and bits. I know I dead locked the doors (click of the latches) I go inside intent on refuelling before putting the dog into the van to go for a late walk when returning the van to our warehouse within security gated parking.

I sit down to then eat supper, I can see the van 6m by direct line of sight through the window. Now comes the perhaps obvious stupid me reflective bit, I switch on the TV and succumb. Wife and dog wife in bed by now and I am well away too reclined on a chair. Maybe at about, 02:00 I wake and the TV switched off by default I too go to bed completely unaware of a visitation at 12:45 by two chaps in Audi A4 coasting to a halt engine and lights turned off behind the Transit and 7 minutes later both vehicles drive away. I am completely unaware the Transit has gone until 07:45 when the dog eventually gets his walk.My son asks "Where did you park the van?" Censored

We all heard nothing no alarm, no doors opening nor closing, not even the engine starting. My CCTV shows the 'chaps' quite well and they also are captured by local shop CCTV too ( I cannot get this GDPR regs) no indicators blinking no clues other than one 'chap' reaches into Audi footwell to get a device possibly a tablet.

I have since been told the helpful stuff .......Diskok, trackers etc. is there really a tracker that covers some form of electronic interception? What am I missing here?

Hidden switch someplace for the starter motor circuit, or ECU power circuit etc

Hopefully they get bored and move onto an easy target

There is nothing in the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 that would prevent the shop from providing you a copy of the suspects. ‘Legitimate interests’ (in this case it is in the public interests to detect and deter criminal acts) is a lawful basis for sharing the footage. Gone D3

You are right but Post Office policy says no. I am told so only police can request

trackers are passive so only really tell you where the vehicle is rather than preventing it from going. I have a niggling suspicion that it is not legal to fit a kill switch that activates when the vehicle is in motion, so the best option is something that prevents the vehicle from starting.
Hidden switches or thinks like the Ghost Immobiliser (other makes are available) where you have to enter a PIN number by pressing certain switches in the vehicle are recommended but make sure you go to a reputable installer for this, otherwise they can be bypassed. 2011 L322 Autobography - a lot of bells and some of the whistles...owner with no idea!

Hi,

I use a "Stoplock" whenever I go to the big city, I know it's not going to stop a determined thief but it's purpose is to make them think it's too much trouble to remove and move on to the next one. I don't bother where I live as I don't feel the need. If a thief want's your car there's not a lot you can do save security gates or bollards.

I've got a Ghost2 fitted which is active all the time.

My L405 has a stoplock fitted 'always' when I leave it too.

I have had a line of questioning from the insurance company which suggests that there is something more that they are not telling me yet.

1 they want me to send in the remaining original key (ironically I was just getting another ( Ford based key ) replicated by locksmith
2 they want to know how far the van key was from the van at the time and whether it was kept in a Faraday pouch

Now on (2) I explained I have a car with keyless entry kept with the key kept in a Faraday pouch and additionally protected too BUT this van was not keyless. I had to confirm how far it was from the van. Maybe 10m....now the cynic in me suggests they may think the key "was read at the time"

I am stumped I have no idea how all this took place in just 7 mins in the dark and without a noise. I wonder could it be that on a previous occasion that they piggy backed and read my code when I was parking up Shocked

it is a standard insurance thing where they ask for both keys back (presumably to confirm that you hadnt left the key in the car and it was stolen that way).
Farady pouches break down over time and on my old car with keyless entry I could open the car with the fob in a faraday pouch after about 6 months!
Whilst the van doesnt have keyless entry did it have keyless ignition? wonder if that is what they were looking into? 2011 L322 Autobography - a lot of bells and some of the whistles...owner with no idea!
