322 n62 oil pressure light

Hey all, Christopher and Vera sent me. Picked up my 4th LR/RR recently. 05 RR hse with bmw 4.4. I know people hate this engine, but mine seems to run excellent with 160k. Vehicle was well maintained. Only concern is an occasional oil pressure light at idle. Oil pressure seems great though and plenty of oil flinging around valve covers. I know my bmws had issues with collapsing oil filters, so I immediately suspect this. But on my particular RR the oil filter housing is remote (located near radiator) and no matter where I go for a replacement I get given the wrong one. The filter I keep getting given has a plastic core and hollow bottom paper filter, but the one I need has a metal core and threaded bottom. This doesn't look to be an aftermarket oil filtration setup or anything, what gives? I'd really like to get this filter replaced. I'm also stuck dealing with some canbus issues and invalid rode height but that's all for another post. Love these old girls. She really feels like she carrying you gently down the road, in whatever condition. A whole different driving experience. (Protip, don't do a coil conversion to yours, I've had 4lrs, one with AB coil kit, and it destroys the LR/RR experience on highway completely, off road is alright but on road it's a complete molestation).

Well thx for any help, and ty for the service manuals. Great site 👍

Small correction to your typo. It's an M62, not N62. Smile Ron B. VK2OTC

Just to check, the L322 M62 has a remote oil filter housing that, if you look in the engine bay, is behind the top right of the radiator. It takes a 'paper' style cartridge inside it which sits around a removeable plastic centre as seen here:

The later Jag AJ 4.4 V8 ('05 onwards) engine takes a spin on metal canister which sits near the bottom centre of the radiator, below the crank pulley, seen here at the bottom of the diagram:

I've not heard of a different set-up on LR M62 engines. You can get adapters to go on the side of the block for spin on metal canister filters for other BMW M62 engines but not seen one on the L322 as there's probably not space to fit it.

The socket size for the oil filter cap is 36mm. The oil filter you need is the LPW500030 like this:

I had this on tickover. Best solution was to drop the sump plate, remove the pickup and strainer, and clean the strainer using a sharp pick. If the guides have previously gone then there will be bits in the strainer restricting the oil flow. Easy job to do.

John

The other things you may need are the filter housing rubber mounts. They do fail and tear apart leaving the oil filter housing hanging. 2 off part no. LYD000010
