Yes! Very Happy

Well, Embarassed not quite: I had my oil pump changed which isn’t quite the same thing!

I would heartily recommend changing the oil pump every 50K miles (or with V6 models each time the toothed belt service is due).

On the V6, A genuine JLR pump is around £500 fitted (at the belt service) which equates to £10 per 1,000 miles. Peanuts. I have seen a marked reduction in trace wear metals since fitting a new oil pump, which proves at 50K miles, oil pumps are getting tired, OP is reducing, and accelerating engine wear.

A pre-emptive 50K oil pump change has 2 benefits: (1): Reducing likelihood of expensive engine failure, and (2): Much improved saleability of the vehicle.

To me, it’s an absolute no-brainer. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

hi gremlin
mines the v8 ,i did have a look in the wsm and it say about the drive shafts to be removed and also dropping the sump and a lot of other things as well ....so was hoping that someone had replaced there's and says you can do the job doing x-y-z if you get what i mean ...checked the price for oil pump as its about the same as yours was ......or is the lack of replies a positive thing and it don't need replacing unless you get issues .

If you want to replace the oil pump on the SDV8 with the engine in situ then to 'do it properly' you need to remove the sump, and to remove the sump you need to remove the front diff, and to remove the front diff, you need to remove the driveshafts... You'd also need to remove the starter to be able to fit the rear crank locking tool to allow you to remove the crankshaft main front bolt.

If you do plan on doing it a genuine pump is £467.58 and you'll also need a front main seal at the bargain price of £36.94 along with a sump gasket.

I believe it can be done the 'unauthorised way' by leaving the sump in place and hoping it reseals as it's not possible to replace the sump gasket that the pump also mates to.

It's a doddle with the engine out, not a job to look forward to with it in situ though I would imagine. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I think I may just have found a workable solution:

Buy a V6 oil pump, -attached to a V6 model FFRR, and dispose of the V8! Laughing Thumbs Up V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

I don't like to put a dampner on the solution, but it's much the same procedure for the TD/SDV6, the wsm states the sump should be removed, not saying you have to but... L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

@rrs ok.....when looking for videos sdv8 i did see many of the sdv6 been done and they did only remove the oil pump and replace it using approved range rover sealant hence why i asked ,and it looks like the sump gasket on the sdv6 doesn't go under the bottom of the oil pump, and if range rover just use there sealant and not a gasket then i don't know .....and i wouldn't put it past some dealers it do just that.

I'm sure the dealers do that, but charge against the workshop manual time, big win for them! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

oh hell yea big time....... and im guessing or assuming here but i bet even independent specialists do the same (sealant) job done .i have just been looking at the sump gasket and doesn't look like it actually is made to go between the bottom of the oil pump and sump so they must just use sealant as there is no gasket apart from the rubber one around the pump and the crankshaft seal (i could be wrong tho)

The pump should be fitted with the sump off as you are supposed to align the face of the pump and block with a straight edge, which obviously you can't do with the sump in place. I thought the gasket also fitted between the pump and the sump, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Either way, it's not a nice job! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.
