Is this to expensive

Or the going rate for an auto electrician just to come out and (hopefully) see what the problem is. If not or will be more

£145 just to come out.

Don't know he just said that's the price for coming out of its a "simple fix" if not it will be more.

I honestly think a lot are taking the p155 with prices. Yes people need to make a living but good god.

On my Range Rover, the tailgate was closing fine but it would not allow you to lock the car, saying "Tailgate open"
I assumed it was electrical, phoned the main dealer who said a diagnostic check was £170, Big Cry from memory.
In it went, they phoned me to say that a catch was mis-aligned, adjusted & working fine. They said it only took half an hour & charged me about £80. I fully expected to pay the £170 Thumbs Up

That's different this guy told me he is £140 to diagnose a "simple fix" and more if it's more complicated etc.

Key won't turn in the ignition but there's some contraption on the battery called a "battery prog brain".

Yes i did all the other "tricks" to get the key to turn. Also no hazards etc despite a new 900 amp battery.

A common problem on cars of that era.
Mine would fail from time to time on my erstwhile TD6.

I believe the fix is a replacement ignition switch.
This thread may help - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic55636...ion+switch
