What’s happened here?

Changing all the oils etc on my new to me 2016 and spotted this, looks like the covers have been cut away any idea why? both sides front and back, Did wonder if it was deplorable steps related but can’t see anything on the build sheet for them

Also this exhaust ‘joint’ looks factory, any idea if its repairable?

Maybe cut away on the sills for deployable steps or similar which have been removed.

The exhaust is just a clamp, you should be able to remove it (including the tab that holds it in place ) and replace it with another suitable clamp. V8 or else ...

Appreciate the replies, I’ll see if I can find some form of clamp for the exhaust , were your steps fixed? SWMBO has hinted I should get some, our 2011 had deployable ones that worked! The D4 before that had fixed ones, I prefer the deployable ones but only when they work! 1972 Series 3 full of character

Would they be an easy fit? I guess I’d need the wiring loom for them to or is ‘everything’ there somewhere hidden up? 1972 Series 3 full of character

If yours had deployables fitted previously then there’s every chance the wiring is still there! Get underneath and see if there’s some unused big waterproof plugs loitering unused! If not either you had fixed fitted previously or the person who removed the steps,
removed the complete kit and caboodle.
Now, something else to consider would be. If it had fixed steps fitted previously, the cutouts will most certainly be different to deployables and visa versa! So, maybe worth checking for anymore clues left… I.E are the wiring blank grommets still fitted and is the dirt on them disturbed or not? If the latter is suggest the steps were probably fixed? Do you have a steps button down by your boot opening button? As that’s another giveaway…
Hope that all helps with your decision making process sir 👍

Excellent tips thank you!
Hadn’t paid much attention to the steps button as the L322 was up by the mirror, I thought the button by the boot opener was the suspension ‘queens button’ but that’s in the usual place Embarassed
Just had a scan with the freshly delivered GAP and looks like (along with the button) it did have deployable steps!
That’s me off searching eBay now for a reasonable set! Are are there any aftermarket’new’ sets worth trying?

Don’t suppose anyone knows the fixing bolt sizes for a set of deployable steps?
I’ve found a set of steps without fixings, JLR were only interested in selling me a complete kit 1972 Series 3 full of character
