I can confirm NDT solution works. I came across same idea when wiggling, tapping, begging or whacking it in didn't work...
In fact, all tools listed in this thread are great, but late evening weekend timing pushed me to make one up from steel plate I found in my garage. Worked both ways.

For pushing it out I used wheel studs/nuts to hold the plate in place and M12 or 14 bolt through the plate.

For pulling, managed with little M6.
Also, cleaning spline on CV and hub helps a lot.
