I've now had the L405 coming up to 3 years so thought I'd post on what it has taken to keep it on the road and in top condition including prices.

I've done just under 20,000 miles in it, it's now just ticked over to 90,000 miles since new in 2014

I think most things are covered below but not necessarily in the correct order...

Fatty came with a few months of JLR warranty, it went in for it's last few items that were highlighted just before the JLR warranty expired.

One new rear shock, new drivers door handle and suspension pump £740 £0 from me..

The ARC rear and front pipes were renewed, cost around £1,000 in parts.

Aircon needed a regas, that cost £130.

New main battery (5 yr warranty) £170

Repaired split in rear tailgate and fixed it's lack of movement Cost £1 for a big washer

We just picked up a 2019 L405 (in signature). It was a good deal because of the high miles, as it has 98k on it. However it is in cherry condition, paint and body and interior excellent.

It was a one owner, fully main dealer maintained vehicle.

Only downside is he did oil changes only when vehicle told him to which was every 15-17k miles, I'll change it every 5k.

When I was underneath changing out all the drivetrain fluids (none of them looked bad at all) for peace of mind, I noticed a rear main seal leak. Very minor. Wonder if you noticed one on yours, you have about the same mileage as mine.

I also have a front control arm bushing that is torn. I ordered both front lower rear control arms. Will diy at some point, definitely not urgent.

Because I'm a cosmetically anal person, the two things I spent the most money on are the rear console lid $600 and a new original front grill, also $600. The grill on mine is in pretty good shape, but all the shiny black plastic horizontal surfaces are faded out. So I went oem because I was concerned an aftermarket grill would not fit the Land Rover badge in the oval cutout on the grill. I see that you bought aftermarket, grills, 3 of them? Does the OEM Land Rover badge fit in the aftermarket grill oval?

Another odd thing is that the fuel door pin popped out somewhere. I had to buy an entire new fuel door housing to fix that. $105.

Also, how do you like those Pirellis? I'm debating Michelins or Pirelli all season, I want the quietest tire made. 2023 L460 Range Rover SE P400

Not noticed any leaking fluids apart from a stain down the bell housing that would have been coolant when the oil cooler failed just before my ownership.. Of course your engine won't suffer from that...

All suspension arms and bushes were replaced just before I bought it so they are OK for a while, also all 6 flexi brake pipes were changed..

Grille badge on all three is 85mm x 43mm which I believe is standard size, I couldn't get the badge off the original without damaging it or the grill so bought a new one, well, several, nice and cheap from Aliexpress, the quality is good, longevity not as good as original but what do you expect...lol...

I love the tyres, they feel great, although cheap new tyres feel better than worn expensive ones...!!

Noise from old tyres was 66dB in cabin at 70mph with no surrounding cars, 63dB after on same road and conditions, so yes they are very quiet

So you have bought 3 aftermarket grills over 3 years? I guess they don’t hold up as well as OEM? I’m trying to justify my oem grill purchase! I really wanted one that would match the atlas grey trim all over my ATB. So I chose OEM. I didn’t want a different shade of grey or silver on the grill and none of the online pics looked right.

What are flexi brake pipes?

The surround to the original grille on my UK specification Range Rover is black, it then had chrome bits, no atlas in sight, they fit very well. I changed them as I wanted a change, not because they needed changing...


You would probably call them flexible brake lines, they are an optional renew at the 60,000 mile service... They are the flexible brake lines that connect each corner of the car to the rigid metal lines that run underneath, flexible to take account of the suspension travel and steering....  Pete

I’m on my first 405 after three 322s in eighteen years. The 322s averaged about £1000 per year on top of normal servicing over that period. Some years nothing, some years a lot.
