4.4 SDV8 oil leak.

Hi all,
Hoping you can help me.

Just collected a 2014 SD V8 4.4 L405 and apparently the oil cooler was leaking and has been fixed. I don't doubt this as they've been nothing but helpful.
They've cleaned it down but it still stinks of burning oil when its stationary.
I've looked underneath and its damp with oil, no drips as such.
However, how long does this take to burn off? And what other possibilities could this be.
You don't smell it when driving but when in traffic or moving slowly you can really smell it in the cabin.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Get the undershields off and give it a good jetwash clean underneath (or preferably get someone to do it for you on a lift) then take it for a good long motorway blast with the shields off on a warm dry day, refit shields & report back. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Going to have to dosomething as it really does stink in the cabin. As well as smoke when standing still. Could this still be residual oil leakage? Thank you gremlin will definitely look at this.

Anything else leak wise to look out for? Is this a common thing?

It takes a good clean as the oil gets in all areas of engine bay which can be difficult to remove. Then take it on a motorway for an hour to help burn off residual oil, a good hot Active Regen will also help.
It took several days before the faint oil smell dissipated when mine was done, even though the Indy spent a whole hour cleaning the engine bay carefully with a steam cleaner.

Unless of course there is still a leak, presume they changed the turbo oil pipe seals at the same time?
Presume they replace the cooler? or did they just change the gasket? (oil coolers are known to warp) 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Many thanks for your reply.

I'm told the cooler was replaced and the hose seals changed along with filter etc.

We had a V8 Mercedes before, very similar with the cooler in the V. Seals went and filled the V but there was a drain pipe at the rear of the engine that drained off the oil down into the bell housing of the gearbox and as such gave the signs of a failed rear seal!

With this, there are no drips but it just seems to have gone everywhere and I'm told it will go but I've been driving it for circa two hours and its still there. Am I being impatient?
