They often have a square hole which takes the square peg of an extension bar from a socket set. You plonk it in, and use the extension bar to pull back against the tension to release the pressure on the belt.

Thanks Fisha, that's what I meant. I tried the square peg but it was too small and just kept falling out. |

Need to pre-emptively do this on my ‘17 model next service, does anyone have a list of parts for idlers/tensioner/belts, please? (OEM not necessarily JLR) |

Tool ordered and the belt is now on. However, it appears to be slipping backwards on the water pump pulley. There's some scoring to the pulley, do you think that could be causing it to push backwards? |
