Upgrade?

i have seen an autobiography 4.4 which has tweaked my interest, i currently have a L322 which i love but is now starting to show its age and has a very intermittent issue with the air suspension (which I've learned to live with).

So question is do i take the plunge or am i just going to get into a whole lot of pain? and if so what should i be looking at on a test drive.

It probably depends on your budget to a certain extent. You'll likely pay at least £20k for a nice, low mileage, well serviced car. Much less than that and you could be buying a heap of trouble.

There's lots of info on here about what to look out for. Sunroof drains for sure is the first thing to check / fix.

Consider what it might cost to put yours right. You might be better off sticking with what you know.

I was in the same boat last year but my 2011 Vogue was a keeper, fault-free, reliable and a good all round workhorse.

However a 2016 L405 came up for sale in the next village and was my dream spec (AB with ALL the bells, right colour, interior etc. so I bought it. It is a better place to be (massage seats, HUD, rear entertainment) and a better 'limo' so the change is a good one.

Drove my L322 the other day and it still gives me a buzz and is a 'proper' workhorse, but glad I scratched the itch.

PS if you still have the TD6, the L405 will feel light years ahead. 4.4 TDV8 is the L405 engine to have as it has the stability control system which helps cornering.

thanks for the replies, certainly got some thinking to do...

the screen price is £24K and from the description on-line and what I've seen looking at under it it's probably a good buy, need to check VED & insurance cost just to factor everything

2013

(the garage do over price their vehicles a bit but having purchased from them before the back-up does sort of make up for it)

It will need a thorough check underneath for rot, check especially ACE pipes have been done, they rot and are an expensive PITA to do. Seems a bit expensive for the year. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Indeed been looking on-line and yes there are a lot out there cheaper at some really shady looking car lots (they may be honest traders of course just with lower overheads) but personally if buying a prestige and technology heavy car I would rather pay a bit over the odds knowing I'd got some comeback and a warranty that's actually worth the paper its written on, but that's just me...

Thanks for your input anyway, always good to go with these things in mind as they may be something that can be bargained with when it comes to price

If you are spending that much I would try for a newer car. Ideally an MY2017 as the upgrade in the infotainment screen is huge. With the 4.4's the earlier ones are about £760 for VED, dropping to £430 when they became Euro 6 with adblue. After 1st April 2017 they are currently £195 due to the change in the rules.

I believe there have been quite a few small changes over the years from the earliest cars through each model year. With regards to the warranty check carefully what it actually covers, if its Land Rover approved (which I doubt at that age) it is pretty good. But anything else is questionable. 2005 E60 M5

As Gremlin said, that is waaaaaaay too much for a 2013. You should be looking at 2017 for that money (2017 it got the upgraded info screen - not the big one, just the symbols on the bottom of the screen instead of on the side).

And ACE pipes definitely, along with oil cooler check, EGR and turbo condition.

Look for one which has had some money spent. Mine had just had nearly £10k by a FFRR specialist to get it tip top before I bought it.

mileage is not important, it's whether it has been looked after properly.

I’d echo that the price appears over the odds for a 2013 even from a premium dealer - unless it’s very well optioned with very low mileage / owners & impeccable history but even then, sounds pricey.

Autotrader valuation or simialr will provide a realistic market price if not done so already? Thumbs Up Jonathan

As far as i can tell the 2017 hardware is the same or very similar as the 2018 just the screen is larger etc. It still feels pretty modem on my car and usage appears the same as dads 2018. Hugely better than the previous 2013-16 screen 2005 E60 M5
