3 beeps on key in

HI All,

I think I have a low battery in my car key but get no warning on the dash.... I do get 3 beeps when I insert the key, When I turn it, all the dash lights come on as normal but the car doesn't start... I get nothing....

Turn it off and on a few times, take out the key, lock and unlock and try again and eventually it does turn over an fire up straight away. The remote does lock and unlock the car etc so it seems like the immobiliser does not unset on key in all the time.

Could this be down to a flat remote battery..?

Cheers Ash

As a matter of interest, how long are the remote batteries supposed to last for? I use one key for main use with the other kept as a spare. Will the batteries last the same time in both keys or will the key, in day to day use, have a run down battery significantly sooner than the spare? Previous cars:

Normally change mine every 12 months regardless of condition. Don't want to be stranded for the sake of a couple of batteries.

URGENT HELP NEEDED

Hi Folks - I'm stuck...

IS there any way to reset the sync code for my key now. I'm at work. Key won't start the car and the IID tells me there is a fault with the number of codes extended (or increased)... The key will let me in the car, it clicks when I put it in the ignition as normal, all the lights come on but nothing more.

Seems the immobilisor will not disarm...

IS there a rest feature or something as I have to get 65 miles home tonight.....

From a quick look on the net....

Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks
the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets
supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their
respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or
additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the
procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.

Initialisation Procedure

1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.

2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position
0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds
of turning the ignition switch to position 0.

3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.

4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock
button three times within 10 seconds.

5 Release both buttons.

6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat
step 4.

7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the
initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will
drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

So if that works, you will have to do it all again with that key and any spare keys when you get home, or the spare key will no longer work.

Put a spare fob battery in the car just in case.

Thanks all

She actually started about 45 mins later while waiting for the recovery guy to turn up. (And after many attempts)

So - got home, replaced the fob battery and followed the re sync procedure (many thanks MJD !). It made all the right sounds (locked and unlocked as per the procedure) but still only started a couple of times out of 20 tries.

So it's not fob battery cos that's new, it's not the sync (I assume) because I've just been through that. Could if be something to do with the gear lever sensor that detects whether the car is in P or N ? I get no dash messages at all but forgot to check for transmission issues via IID.

Anything else I could check or any other ideas what it could be. I can't risk going out anywhere right now cos BOTH keys give the same result.

Thanks again guys! Appreciate it. Ash

Could indeed be the inhibitor stopping it starting if it's not in p or n, or that's what it thinks.

You could try lubricating the gear linkage at the side of the gearbox.

Does the steering lock disengage when it doesn't start ? Just wondering if it's to do with the bits near the key slot not reading the transducer in the key consistently or actually a key issue........

Mine had a dash error displayed when my key fob battery was getting low.

Do you always get the 3 beeps ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Have you got nice and tight battery connections ?

Just wondering if the starter is not able to draw what it needs or has a bad connection further down the chain..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Battery is fine and it seems hit and miss as to whether it turns over. Don't think its that though.

Car had a service last week and cos they messed up up the fuel filter (trapped an o ring so fuel poured out) it went back to them. Easy fix and they gave it a good clean. I wondered if they sprayed that cockpit cleaner in there and clogged the barrel so I sprayed some contact cleaner in there. She started first time but was still a bit intermittent after that.

So, with key in and fully turned with no response, I gave the key a good giggle and heard a click. Turned off and on again and all was fine. Still intermittent but with a good giggle it seems to start. I reckon either the barrel is on the way out or there is still some crud in there...?

If it's on the way out, is it a some replace or do I need a specific one to fit e key? Anything else I need to know before I just go and bug a new one?

Cheers Ash

Oh and everything else works - steering lock, dash, seats move to memory positions etc.. Intravee no longer folds/unfolds mirrors though even though I've gone through the process to set the again but that's a minor issue) Ash
