To do, or not to do? That is the ? Grease Wheel Hubs...

Question for the group... it seems this has been discussed multiple places online, but with varying information (opinions). Curious if there is a consensus amongst this group with respect to greasing (anti-seize application) to the wheel hub: 1. spigots, 2. Studs, 3. Hub Mating Surfaces.

Info online warns about the dangers of 1. wheel stud failure due to application of incorrect torque once the stud is "wet" with anti-seize, or 2. That the wheel studs will shear off if anti-seize is applied to wheel mating surface.

The counterpoint is caution that without the anti-seize, the wheels become impossible to remove.

Consulting the Service Workshop Manual, it states:
BRAKING SYSTEM
... 6. Clean road wheel hub spigots and apply grease, Land Rover Part Number RYL 105020 to the wheel mating surface of each spigot.

I'm inclined to comply with the service manual... unless folks feel in experience otherwise? What am I missing?

Thanks,
Ed

I always grease the hub mounting surfaces and wheel nuts / studs. Don't even give it a 2nd thought.

Otherwise you just end up with wheel nuts that are impossible to un-tighten and trying to kick the wheel off as its seized in place.

+1 here too. I have just replaced my OEM nuts with stainless ones and dont fancy my new nuts sticking to the studs so applied copper slip. Retorqued after a couple of weeks and all good. Current: FF Westminster money pit

Been greasing the wheel hub, spigots and wheel studs for the last 50 years.
Never use a torque wrench when fitting wheels, just do them by feel. Never had a wheel come loose yet.
Have you ever tried removing a LR wheel nut that has been torqued up dry after a couple of years use especially given the silly stainless steel covers on the nuts.

Copperslip for sure, torque wrench settings may be slightly affected but from experience that can be ignored. BMW i3 Electric Car

What everyone else said!👍

I even go as far as removing the wheels of a new car and giving the components a good smear of copper ease just in case they need to be dismantled in the future.
