Anyway to keep steering lock disabled without battery?

As per title really.

Going to be fiddling with front suspension (again Sad ) and would like to have the steering lock off, but also need to disconnect the battery.

Any way that can be achieved?

Possible, I guess.

I find it hard to believe there is a mechanical linkage between the key (on the centre console) and the steering column. I had assumed an electrical steering lock, something like a solenoid that pulls a pin out of the column when the key is in, which would, of course, not work when the battery is disconnected.

Can only try it!

To take the battery off, you need to let everything shut down in the car first, I doubt leaving the key in the barrel will allow everything to shut down safely for disconnecting the battery.

In short, no, I very much doubt it. 2006 Mercedes CLS
