What are these wires!?

Hello chaps,

I've just had a new engine (don't ask) fitted to the Rangie.

All is well but I noticed a couple of things that didn't look right in the engine bay.

Here is a pic:

As you can see there is one multi pin female connector on one wire and another black box connected to another wire but loose and hanging down.

Both of these wires are tied together and are located behind the front offside light. They both come from the offside of radiator and I can't see where they've come from.

Can anyone advise!?

I think the relay (on mine) is mounted on the Rad - and I think it's the relay for the electric fans that are in front of the rad.

Is the black box not the air pollution sensor that switches the cabin air to recirculate if you’re stuck in traffic behind a vehicle belching out smoke? Or did I dream that?
