Whistle You don't need a rivnut tool, just the rivnuts and a bit of cunning....... If you place a riv nut in the hole, hold it in place with a small ring spanner and pass a bolt through the spanner, you can apply pressure to the rivnut to stop it spinning while you tighten the bolt up.... when the bolt is tight undo it, remove the spanner and Mr. Green Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... @miggit Did you ever make a kit? And did you do a double sided one?? Best part of £100 seems ridiculous!

Those of you who've fitted the kit or had it as standard, does it damp the downward movement of the lower tailgate, stopping it "banging" at the bottom when opening ?

Reason for the question is that I had the opportunity to buy a second hand kit off a scrapped car for a bargain price, but when I tested that gas strut it appeared to only damp / slow movement in the upward direction. So it appeared to prevent you slamming the tailgate shut, but NOT damping it open. Because of that I decided it wasn't worth buying. Paul,

Stan,
thanks for the comment. I was surprised & thought I'd misunderstood how it worked.
I think I need to relook at how the damper mounts & then check if the parts are still available - it would have been a bargain, lol. Paul,

If you email Rob at Duckworths, not via the suppliers section on here, or ring him he will be able to tell you if the kit or parts are available and the cost.

I don't know about the availability overseas but here in the USA the parts are still available. I just got all of the needed parts from my local Land Rover dealer. It cost $110.92 USD plus our local sales tax.

  • Support Cylinder (LR017455)
  • Support Cylinder Bracket (LR021053)
  • Strap (LR038048)
  • Distance Sensor Screw x2 (LR003808)

You'll need to drill two holes to mount the Support Cylinder Bracket. I also bought some nyloc nuts to secure the screws from inside the tailgate.

And don't forget to protect the bare metal after drilling the two holes for the bracket so it doesn't rust through!
