So looking at my 3 series BMW sitting in the garage next to my FFRR - I can see a transplant session happening - first aid kit and under seat storage box and the under seat fire extinguisher.

Very Happy "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

Hi, just wondering, I have a 02 vogue, with the phone in the arm rest,

I have found a 3rd gen ulf, will this allow me to connect my iPhone? Or should I get a newer one? Found a 7th gen aswell, but a lot more money

Cheers Toby

It may work yes but the later the generation typically the better connectivity and features. I have the latest gen 13 and all works well but as you have noticed they are not cheap. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I have a 6th gen I think. (car at bodyshop so can't double check) can't help with iphone, but it does have voice control on it, so you can use that button on the steering wheel also.......

Earlier ULF's don't have that feature.....

If the unit says ULF mit SES on the label it means it has voice control.

Just in case that's any use if you decide not to remortgage for the 13th gen !!

I seem to remember a thread on here where there was a problem with an apple OS version causing connection issues at some point, rather than the ULF's..........

You've obviously done some research, so I assume you know you'll have to do some rewiring on the car and that you'll also need a bluetooth antenna........

Thanks for the reply mark,
The the 3rd gen I have found sais it is MIT SES, but all in I'm not overly botherd about VR anyways

Yes I'm aware of needing to repin the plug, although I'm struggling to find a pin guide, I know there is one out the as I have seen it, I'm just struggling to find it again

Didn't know I needed a Bluetooth antenna, do I need a specific one?

Thanks

Right, antenna found, but none of them come with the cable, that seems a little more difficult to get hold of
Loads of them in America, might try BMW direct on Monday, unless thers anywhere else to get one from?

I've already done the ULF upgrade.

PM me your email and I'll send you the chart I used for the rewire.

Also get a new plug from an Audi dealer, which I posted somewhere else, as it will make the rewire much easier. You just move the pins you need to the correct place on the new plug, and leave all the old ones on the old connector. Then just connect the new one to the ULF.

Let me know if you need more info.

There should be 2 "bolts" sticking up from the frame that holds the sat nav. the antenna fastens on there..........

My car was prewired for phone, so the cable was there in the boot already.

Not sure how things change if you have the phone in already.

Not 100% sure, but will this not work for the cable ?

Does your existing setup already have a cable ?

I may have part number for mine somewhere....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Wow, mark, you never said it was so easy to do Very Happy

So, I repinned the socket, plugged it in and it worked, spot on

All for £60, I didn't need the cable in the end, so I will send it back or sell it

Didn't change the mic, it seems fine, but I might upgrade that at some point

Cheers Very Happy very happy now

Excellent.

I think it's well worth going the ULF way.

How did you do the pairing button ?

Did you get the new socket from Audi, or did you just re-pin the existing one ?

I was a bit unsure about all the wires that were not used in the existing one still being connected up, so thought if they were in a plug of their own, it would be the safer option.

Having done it, I'd say sourcing a decent ULF at a good price is the hardest bit.

Pleased you are happy.

I had been looking for a long time at doing it, but the bimmernav cost of $700 without a ulf was putting me off!

I didn't get a Audi plug, as me nearest Audi dealer is abit of a trek away, I'm prety good with wires, being a sparky n all that, so I just labeled everything up and repinned the existing, all unused ones I just individually heat shrinked the ends so they are safe

There are a few 1st gen ulfs on eBay for £80 - £100

So I think I did prety well getting a 3rd gen for 45 delivered Very Happy

With the pairing button, I used piggy back connectors on 32 and 36 with flying leads to a connector block, and then just shorted out as required, I didn't see the point in running a proper button for the amount it will get used
