Anyone had the thermostat fail, like over night?
My car does not get out of the blue, and at this time of year no heat is produced.

It used to run half way up the gauge and heater was toasty.

Mine has just gone too, although I do get out of the blue and if stuck in traffic will settle at 12 o'clock. But go down a long hill and it'll cool to @ 10 o'clock.

Planning to swap it out at the weekend so watch out for photo howto early next week (assuming I don't hit any snags.)

To be on the safe side, just check your coolant...  .

Well, fought my way through to the thermostat, thwarted by the torx bolts on the housing so off to buy tools tomorrow. Uploaded lots of pictures to gallery. Should have it all back together tomorrow and then the write up. .

Oh, I got the thermostat from Foundry 4x4 off the bay @ £25 + VAT ( LR price @ £41+ VAT unless duckworths dan can do better) .

Update-
Replaced main thermostat (thanks Joe90 ) but car still runs cold.... So after a bit of research found out that their is another thermostat for the EGR cooler, so changed that too; still no joy

I'm at the moment running with no viscous fan fitted and the radiator grill partially blocked off, and still it will not get out of the blue on the gauge.

I did 15 miles on the motorway yesterday and even that did not increase the temperature...

Two things happened to my car that either one could have affected the temperature, I had the EGR valve removed and a oil cooler for the gearbox added, replacing the existing engine mounted cooler.

So either now that the EGR is blocked off, no hot exhaust gases are flowing through the EGR cooler, therefore not heating the engine coolant, or the original gearbox cooler is a kind of heat exchanger and actually helps warm the engine coolant up, so removing has stopped the engine coolant warming up.

My car up to the piont of the above two modifacations being carried out (they were done at the same time) ran smack dead centre of the temperature gauge, and had a toasty heater, returned better mpg.

The mpg has suffered by about 4 mpg, so really would like to get to the bottom of this.

when i blanked my egr off , it didnt affect the temperature gauge which still goes to the centre of the gauge..

either its the oil cooler or you dis-lodged something whilst doing these jobs..

btw , i suppose the engine still warms up then.. ... - .- -.

Have you considered the FBH has stopped working, diesel engines on there own take a long time to warm up when it's this cold.

should have got to a working temperature after a 15 mile drive though.... ... - .- -.

Could it be a faulty sender unit and the gauge is reading low.

Have you checked the temperature using the Hidden menu

Scarey, the engine does not warm up, stays in the blue with little or no heater output.

FBH has never worked (another job to do...)

One plus point is I now have a straight six growl from the engine, the viscous fan removed makes the engine sound very nice


Still want a heater though!
