- Removing the iiner wheel arch – 337 viewsThis is recommended by the Arnott's guide, (on the drivers side UK) in order to release air from the springs. Did this while taking a break from "The Tight One". There are three bolts on the body that protude through the arch, fixed with plastic nuts (10mm), these are in the recesses/dimples in the arch. Nearly all the rest of the fixings are hexagon headed screws (8mm), including the three underneath the body at the rear. You will also need to undo a few of the engine undertray screws to access the clips.

- removing inner wheel arch 2 – 320 viewsAt the front you have to remove a set of plastic clips to release this section

- removing inner wheel arch 3 – 312 viewsAt the rear you have three hexagon headed screws (8mm) and the tricky one is tucked up just behind the mudflap. Its a plastic clip fixing, but you need to unscrew first with a Philips screwdriver, then use a pair of pliers to finish the unscrewing (as the screwdriver keeps pushing the clip back in)

removing inner wheel arch 4 – 305 viewsGetting it out, once you have undone all the fixing is a matter of tugging away from the inner sides and wiggling until it falls away from the main wheel arch rim. Not looking forward to putting it back in!

- Views inside the wheel arch - Valve Block – 386 viewsRight, this is what your after, the valve block. On my car the lower yellow tube is for the drivers side (UK), the upper for the passenger side (UK). I'll need access to this when I do the passenger side strut, as it will still have air in it. Apparently you need to loosen one of the black airlines to release the air on the passenger side.

- Back to the Tight One – 345 viewsHere's the kit that finally released the lower bolt. A 16" breaker bar (1/2"), 24mm six sided deep socket and three legs from the trampoline in the garden! - gave me about 5ft to lean on. After about 20 minutes of slowly turning the bolt a few taps with the clump hammer on the nut started the thing moving and eventually it just fell out.

- Separate the Strut from the hub – 343 viewsWith the bolts out I used a suitably sized cold chisel to lever the hub and the strut apart, no struggle here.

- Rel;easing the Spring from the top – 346 viewsUndo the innermost of the three nuts and mark the centre location of the bolt sticking through, for realignment when refitting (5/8" or 16mm socket needed)

- Support the strut – 326 viewsBefore removing all three bolts, support the strut so that it doesn't drop. For me a small plank of wood under the strut and on top of the drive shaft did the job. The strut weighs about 35 lbs.
