Climate Control Overcooling

My climate "control" does not seem to be doing much controlling. I leave it on full AUTO mode permanently. In my previous RR (P38) I rarely found it necessary to change the temperature settings. In the current car however frequent temperature adjustments are needed to the temp knobs and the centre face vents.

To be comfortable I need to set the temperature anywhere between 20C & the 28C max and often at 28C it's blasting freezing cold even when it's only 20 degrees outside. I have to then manually turn down the fan speed for a while to avoid freezing to death.

On a hot day after being parked it the sun for a couple of hours the internal temperature is often 60C+. The AC brings the temp down very quickly but continues to blow at nearly full fan speed for at least half an hour before backing off a little if left to its own devices. Mostly I have to slow the fan manually as on auto even at 28 degrees its still blowing hard.

I have IDS and there are no faults showing. My dealer can't find any problem either and says everything is normal.

Is this right? How often do most people have to adjust the temperature and by how much?

60+ degress???? Ufff... Brutal....

Maybe this will help.
Out here, my current settings are 20-22 whole year. Maybe on an ultra cool day, 24, or 18 vice versa.
But the main ''confort setup'' setting I think it is made by moving the center vents temperature control opposite the outside temps. meaning during the summer I put them just 1/8-1/4 to the hot side and on winter full cold. this way I can prevent some bursts of ultra cold air to the chest.

Other thing that can help is activating the rear controls fan and temp, (dunno if 2006's have them) to full max. this way the whole car cools faster and the computers don't get much confused about differences between front and rear temps.

I've been chasing the answer to this same problem since I bought my car, try covering the sunlight sensor ( the red plastic thing in the middle of the dash next to the windscreen) with electrical tape or something that won't let the sun hit it and try the auto setting, or just try it at night. Please let me know if this fixes the problem and I'll let you know if I find a better fix for this issue

The Auto setting will always utilise the air con and so yes, you should get the light on. The system cannot regulate without the air con. Discovery 4 HSE

For all the LM's refinedness (?)(! Cool ), the HEVAC was one thing that actually seemed better in the P38 (provided the blend motors, blower motors, AC condenser and whatever else was all OK). I find that I have to readjust the temp in the LM often even with the heater in winter. I leave the house and the temp is fine for the first 20 mins of my commute - then it gets too cool. In summer its a similar story. I don't have this in the P38 - even at over 300k kms.

Doubt you'll find a better fix than I did.... Sold the car after 8 months ownership. Laughing

The hopeless climate control was pretty much the deciding factor which pushed me over the edge and away from the RR for good. But it wasn't just that. For me the L322 was simply not a match for my previous P38's in many respects and I won't put up with technology that's not fit for purpose. The HEVAC in the P38 was pretty much set and forget, as it is now in the FL2.

Never thought I'd say this but I'm not missing owning a RR at all. Very Happy
