Brake failure - Phew!

Been into LR today to have my flickering headlamps looked at. Typically as soon as they got it in the workshop it stopped doing it and worked perfectly! Theyve flickered on high beam, constantly since I got it, and now it decides to self repair! Typical Evil or Very Mad

So I go to drive it out of the workshop and instantly the brake pedal goes to the floor. It turns out that the brake flexi has burst and all of my brake fluid was on the workshop floor. Thank GOD it didn't fail on the motorway on the way home. Doesn't bear thinking about Shocked

The dealer are already making 'won't be covered under warranty' noises and if thats the case then i'm DEFINATELY changing dealers after they've fixed it. As i've said in a previous post, it currently feels like this particular dealer will do anything to avoid a warranty claim.

I don't get it?

I'll keep you updated.

Sorry, not sure how the dealer can get out of that one. It is a catastrophic failure of an essential braking component and it is one which is not considered a service item or a consumable.

Brake pads - serviceable item - as required
Brake discs - serviceable item - as required
Brake fluid - serviceable item - 3 years (I think)
I can't recall ever having seen flexi hoses on the service schedule though.

Glad it happened where it did though. They're big old things to try and stop without brakes. Shocked Shocked

I know. It got me thinking whether I would have remembered the emergency braking procedure (pull on the elctronic handbrake) under pressure....

I agree, you would think it would be difficult to get out of but if landrover say no then i'm screwed and will have to pay. ESPECIALLY if the dealer has the attitude that it won't be paid in the 1st place.

luckily it happened at slow speed , BUT on a 2007 car the odds of a brake flexi hose bursting at slow speed with very little applied pressure is probably a million to one chance possibly higher i would be interested in seeing a pic of said hose just to see were it failed

hope you get it all sorted and hassle free Thumbs Up onto no6 Range Rover

Agreed.

Dealer broke my steeringwheel, I saw them do it from the other side of the carpark, then tried to bill be £800 to repair it.

They are all shysters.

It does look really sus, but I don't see how they could have damaged it themselves. They were looking at the headlamps....

Evil or Very Mad I had a feeling your dealer wouldn't be able to find fault with the headlamp flickering - as I mentioned it to you, before?

I bet they spot it the moment your warranty runs out - but not before they sell you a £110 replacement bulb (non refundable electrical item) that won't work because of knackered ballast resistor Whistle

Lucky for them your visit to their technical academy of excellence was not a wasted trip - was it not Rolling Eyes

Thinking about the emergency brake procedure for a moment, would it have worked? Not without fluid I suspect.

Surely though, the beast has a split braking system so one circuit should have worked OK even if the pedal did travel a long way down first.

Even more reason to replace my flexi hoses with some nice braided stainless ones. Very Happy

I dont know. I'm not sure what the electronic parking brake is attached to. I know the old one was a transmission brake.

Either way i'm just glad it happened when it did. I would personally take my chances in a range rover any day of the week but I have a 1 year old. Doesn't bear thinking about.........

Both pipes replaced under warranty. All is well again. A VERY lucky escape methinks........
