Mice eat cars

Had a "Check brake pads" warning message so got Craig to check them as instructed. Was expecting him to fit me a nice new set of brake pads but turns out I only needed a new sensor cable. Mouse or some other rodent appears to have taken a liking to the cable and has chewed right through it. Car has been stood for 12 days in the underground car park at my flat in London so may have taken the mouse a few sittings to eat an inch of cable. May have found another use for my venture cam. I can use it to watch the local wild life eat my car! 2006 4.4 V8 Vogue SE

I know a farmer who's cars are regularly eaten by mice. Rubber hoses, cables etc. It's a huge ongoing problem for him. Previously..

I've had 3 cars damaged by mice/rats. One actually ate it's way into my wifes car, ate thro the carpets under the passenger seat made a nest and fell asleep. Very Happy
Recently had one of the little bu..ers under the bonnet of my FFRR chewing on a pipe. Not significant but I have now left a bowl of "tasty" rat food on top of the engine cover which hopefully will get eaten in the coming days.

In Switzerland there can sometimes be a problem with Marder - which is like a ferret, chewing brake lines.

Fortunately I've not been affected.

This from a fellow VX220 owner: -

Did I ever tell you about the little feckers building a nest in the front of my VX? Right next to the heater box by the side of the battery, stank every time I put the fan on.

Driving along one day and a mouse popped up from underneath the bonnet, proceeded to then sit on top at 30mph without a care in the world, even leaned into the corners.

Just ordered a Battery Operated Sonic Rat and Mouse Repeller. Going to find somewhere in the engine bay to leave it. Car is regularly left in my garage for ten days at a time so plenty of opportunity for the little b@stards to have a feast. Perhaps they'll move on to the nice merc SL500 that never seems to move from the space next to mine. Maybe they've already eaten most of it and that is why it never moves! 2006 4.4 V8 Vogue SE

Not just me then! Though not cables, did find eaten conker bits on both sides of then engine bay but luckily nothing eaten. Must be Glos and wilts rodents like Range Rovers, not surprising given how many there are about! The benefit of the bike being OK is there is nowhere warm for them to sit on the bike.

Aperently I was told it has to do with the insulation for the electric cables they need to be fire retarding and there are 2 ways of doing that the most expensive one is by using chemicals in the plastics the cheapest way is, so they told me, using fish flower ??

It would explain why the rodents like electric cables

Rodents, mice or rats not sure which, ate my Range Rover fuel tank - cost close on £1500 to replace it luckily the insurance covered it.
