New windscreen at stealers ? Advice please

Gents my ff is due in at the stealers for an mot and a few warranty bits mainly the fbh (its the resistors after reading the threads on here ) they will want to replace it which they can do under warranty anyway my windscreen has two chips one dead centre and one on nearside edge so may need a new windscreen so question is there any value in asking them to get it done or am I better going to auto glass or whoever ?

i think whilst its in, would make sense to get the dealer to organise a new screen, will be a windscreen company that replaces it anyway so saves you having to organise it for another time... You can paypal direct using - www.paypal.me/duckworthparts

That was my thinking also if there are any trim bits missing I can get them to resolve it I guess they take the contractual ownership ?

Ask for them to have a Genuine JLR screen fitted too Thumbs Up

Believe it or not there is some rubbish glass about for the 322... And your glass should all look factory fitted too with Land Rover/Pilkington on it instead of "solorscreen" or suchlike Thumbs Up

Check with your insurance company first, as they might not cover the cost, if you don't use their 'approve specialist'... Previous LR's

Good call on the insurance they use auto glass but won't cover the cost of a LR windscreen so might be a phone call to them

Depends who you are insured with. I use NFU Mutual, they use Autoglass as their approved contractor. If I have a screen from Autoglass, it won't be original, and the excess will be £50. However, I can insist on a genuine screen if i choose, then they charge me £75.00 excess. Another interesting thing i found out while reading small print is that i can refuse to use their approved repairer in the event of accident damage, and isnsit on it being done by a main dealer - only thing i loose than is them providing a courtesy car. We've had an advisory on ours for its MOT last week, however, the crack is low down on the drivers side (where the black edging is) so below the dashboard limit, but the outside of the glass is perfect, the crack (more like a small star) is on the inside of the glass, or on the laminate.

Now I am wondering how a windscreen repair company would be able to fix that?

Can't remember specifics, but when I had my 735i I had a BMW screen fitted by BMW under the insurance ( though would be a windscreen company coming to do it on their premises).

Insurance company not too happy but paid in the end. This was about 1997 though !

I did complain to the ombudsmen.......took a while.....got reimbursed, but had to pay myself I seem to remember...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

If the insurance use autoglass then you can "ask" autoglass for a pilkington screen. I did and got one! They told me they wouldnt use anything other than pilks as the rest werent as good.

No need to get it done at dealer but good to take the car to a autoglass branch so it can be done indoors and with 2 men on the job There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Incidentally what is the justification for a new screen? I have 2 stone chips which might repair but I don't want to pay a repair excess only to need a new screen later. Is it my choice or do insurance companies have rules on replacement versus repair? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ

If the chip /crack is more than 28mm across it is beyond repair.

Had mine done 2 weeks ago by Auto Windscreens - they use a glass called Nordglass, seems Ok. They replaced all the plastic clips/studs on the 'A' columns (the ones on the inside door edge and the ones next to the windscreen. Came to my house, one guy arrived first, tested the rain sensors etc before removing it to confirm everything was working before they started then another guy turned up to help fit the new one and they retested everything afterwards. I had several chips but also had a small star shaped one that appeared to have got through the top layer of laminate, it was Ok for a few days then overnight, it went from about 2cm to around 35cm (bit strange as no severe temp drop or anything overnight). I had previously spoke to Autoglass a year or so ago about LR windscreens and then they offered either the 'LR one' or Pilkingtons version if I remember correctly. Steve

Would take autoglass over auto windscreens........

The latter took 3 attempts to stop a leak on a screen they fitted to one of our hiluxs. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
