United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue Supercharged Zambezi Silver

I have a couple of these mounted on quads and they are pretty solid. I use a dab of hot glue to hold the SD card in place as it's been known to eject in a tumble
this is a good price

Please don't put anything on the helmets. My wife fell of her horse last week, wearing her helmet and all the other gear. Despite the helmet she was and still is a bit in quite bad shape. Medium to moderate concussion, memory loss (short term memory was gone for hours that day and only started working the next day), she is still having problems trying to read (loses the thread of the story and all that). She still can't remember anything of the morning when it happened, her friend was ahead of her so didn't see the actual accident. We don't know what happened and she was on the most dependable horse you can imagine.

Just imagine if she had had a camera on her helmet, it could have been a lot worse.

Gave us quite a scare and I would not want you to go through the same thing or worse (Schumacher).

If you go for a camera, maybe go for something that is worn "in a safer spot" like on the arm or something. HTC is bringing something onto the market that could work : http://gadgets.ndtv.com/cameras/news/htc-r...90-608418.

Believe me a broken arm is far preferable over brain issues. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Very good point ebajema.

I do hope your good lady has a speedy recovery, falling of a horse is not a nice experience.

Seriously chaps
Thank you all for your thoughts guys, sometimes looking at the bigger picture of what cameras do you miss the smaller detail in what they can do when it all goes wrong, I will look for something else. Thumbs Up If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Yes a speedy recovery to your good lady....

I never have, nor never will, use a helmet camera with a horse. Why would i replay what i have already seen and experienced [usually 2 ears, top of head + what was in front!].

If we need to film the horse then for us the rider is included and we do it from the ground with a normal video camera.

I also believe that they have been banned by BritEventing in any competition.

A goof friend mounted on on his helmet and set off around a parcours, first jump was fine [a lot of ear though], on landing the camera flipped downwards and filmed the peak of his helmet for the entire round!.

Laughing

I would only use a camera for hacking on the road, like what we use as dash cams in the FF's we have. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Welshgragon, been following this post with interest as I didnt realise the danger associated with cameras on helmets. Even hacking results in serious falls from spooking, bad drivers etc. Agree with the principal of a camera, wonder if it could be mounted elsewhere, top of the bridle? Or on the arm as previously mentioned, not an easy one Thumbs Up

Thanks guys. It was a bit of a scare when we realized that it wasn't just a matter of falling off and getting back on again. She can't knock her head for a long time as it would make matters quite a lot worse.

At least she is making progress Wink MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I'm not sure it's that big a problem - I would expect the mount to break well before the helmet

I'm no doubt about to be proven wrong, but haven't heard of a camera causing additional injury - given the number of people using them these days. I would have expected to hear something.....

@Welshdragon, I'm in full agreement that anything that can capture the slightest detail when a horse spooks is great, but in my experience it happens so quickly that unless you can bring the horse back under your control and then look at the reason it tends to be all over in a split second. I have an extremely spooky horse and when she goes its seconds but what ever caused it has long since gone. With the young horses here we take them out on the road with an old schoolmaster or a cyclist running just out board.

Aside of that a few years ago i took a tumble, not my fault or the young horse [she launched off a pacing bar], she fell mid-air and i hit the side of the piste - the helmet i was wearing split straight down the middle - it's still in my tack-room as a reminder of why i always wear a helmet with no additions........

@DavidP, I used to ride an older horse 15 years ago that spooked for just no real reason, was bullet proof! We where on a hack with one other rider on a not too busy B road, trouble was brewing as the cows in the field we where about to pass came rushing down to the road to see us and you can guess what came next, she flew, It took all my might to get her under control, canter on a melted road is not good, had to make her face the hedge to get control on the opposite side of the road!! But I guess the main thing was I didn't fall off or any car coming the other way! ......luck I guess Embarassed If it dont work.......burn it!

Alistair, as has been stated, it was the camera that gave Schumacher his injury.

Embarassed Oops - had missed that story - still seems to be an unproved theory - but I guess the fact it's taken this long to come out, does mean that there may well be some truth to it.....

Found this, seem a better way to go, and use the clip mount.

As far as I can remember the camera was considered to have played a role in either weakening the helmet or creating a point load or something of the sorts. Without having read the full report I don't think we should draw any conclusions re. Schumacher.

From my persective as an engineer and someone who worked in O&G for 27 years, I can only say that the risk is there and the consequences are quite big. Although the probability may be low, the consequences are potentially quite high. In that case the safest way is to avoid the risk altogether Wink, make it ALARP (as low as reasonably practical).

Hope you find a good camera that does what you want it to do without it creating any additional risk Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

yes agree with you there, not using a cam on the helmet, hence the one I found so far clips on the chest as per something very similar to the police use. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
