neg nut of shocky tower

Whilst undoing all the nuts so I can get battery out to give it a proper charge.
I've lost the neg nut (the one on the shocky tower) somewhere in the engine bay. Rolling Eyes

As yet I haven't found it.
Is it essential to have that nut on or not.

Thanks

If LR deemed a nut necessary it should still be there. Thumbs Up Wink
You don't need to remove the battery to charge it, it quite happily charges on the car without any problems.

"Shocky " shock absorber?

If you can't find it then just replace with an equivalent standard nut. You need a nut on there because from memory it secures the suspension leg (it might be an extra point though), you don't necessarily need a neg post terminal which is just there to aid jump starting.

Looking at a photo it's an extra point purely for the negative which is not structural, you don't necessarily need it as it's only there for jump starting. Whack a couple of ordinary nuts on there.

I suggest you try and find the original nut though, not because you need it but because you don't know where it's sitting right now, it could cause a potential problem later on (wear through another component).

if it comes to it i doubt the original nut will cost a lot to buy from a dealer.

I know Land-Rover UK, while they do rip you off on most things, small fixings like nuts bolts and clips aren't normally very expensive.

I mean ok, you might pay £1 for a plastic trim clip that probably cost pennies to make, but still it's only £1.

I'd still ask them. I mean you don't want to waste an hour trying to find something that fits when it would have only cost £5 or something for the proper part.
