I think they have vents to the AC system... So as to NOT melt your favourite snack...

My 2004 is an airconditioned cubby box (like many cars have airconditioned glove boxes) but it's not insulated as a fridge per se |

As above, mine gets chilly but not a fridge. Still keep a can or 2 in there (Coke not beer) and it takes he edge off There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

A lot of cubbies have a hole joining the box to the vents that run to the rear seats, so get a little bit of the air going from the vents there. If the rear vents are set cold, then the cubby cold. If set hot, then cubby warmed iirc. V8 or else ... |
