Done just this tonight and the screen said 12.0v idle and when running its showing 13.5v.

So I presume that shows the alternator is ok is 13.5v to low?

The hidden screen menu is not even close to accurate sir... You need to check it with a volt meter now to be assured BUT........ In checking the hidden menu, you can be assured your alternator is doing something Thumbs Up

What Craig said, the alternator is doing something, however I would also now check with a volt meter across the battery terminals at idle and confirm the 12v. If it is only 12v then the alternator is dying. It should put out 13.5v minimum at idle, rising to 14.5 when it is charging after starting.

To check the idle figure, don't check it immediately after starting the engine, as the alternator will be trying to replenish the battery. Check it after you have been for a run out. That way the battery should be topped up and you will get a true reading. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Tested with my multimeter tonight and at standing between the + and - it reads 12.0v and starting up, running lights, heaters everything to get the alternator to kick in and it reads 13.5v max.

So something is coming out of it but not enough so I'm under the impression that the alternator is Censored , great Sad

Found a mechanic that can supply and fit the alternator for ฃ435.00 is that cheap or expensive?

no idea where it is on the diesel so can't advise on the effort required would have thought part would be around ฃ200 mark

Very much doubt you would get a decent alternator for one of them for ฃ200...

If your battery is only at 12V then it needs a good charge, it could well be that the battery has dies as it was sat at the dealers and it now won't take anymore than 13.5V

12volts on the battery is too low, should be 12.6 with it at rest...

Don't just change the alternator... give the battery a good overnight charge and then see what the readings are...

If the alternator is dying then they don't last long before they start smelling burnt and give up totally.... Then you have you confirmation... Pete
