Am I the only one with Led headlight bulbs? I have H7`s. Took a bit of flafing about with a load resistors and relay to stop the flashing but they are brilliant in my book. I had Bi led H4`s on my P38 and they again where brilliant. I took them off when I sold the car and fitted them into my Merc. 2007 TDV8 VSE

I had LED main bulbs in for while the ones that look like a Dalek on steroids but they were rubbish , terrible light scatter from being the wrong position of light source . Very similar to putting HID's in, the parabolic reflector just isn't made for it . 2008 MY Supercharged

axle, are you talking about the bulbs with dozens of SMD led`s per bulb, if so I agree they are useless

The trouble with LEDs is the amount of light they emit tends to be proportional to their size, and while large LEDs can emit a large amount of light, one that's acceptably small as to be close enough to a filament doesn't emit as much light. Aside from that, the typical high colour temperature of 6000K, while "fashionable", isn't good for vision. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Stan, my experience with those type of cob led`s is mixed. Mostly over time sections start to stop working and they get dimmer and dimmer. The type I posted before with the Led driver I have had running for 3 years, expensive when I first got them for my P38 but still going strong in my Merc. They are so bright I took Hid spotlights off my P38 as they were redundant.

I cant offer any technical expertise on this but can comment on my experience. The Cob Type led as in Stans picture seem to be made up of many emitters in one blob. The emitters fail one by one over time which gives the effect of dimming. The type I have I presume are single emitters massively brighter compared to the cob

I guess overall lifetime will vary wildly between different LEDs. In terms of the basic design, Stan's ones are COB (Chip On Board) which generally emit more light in total, while Wayne's are SMD (Surface Mounted Device) so being smaller give "better" focus.
