What would cause oil to come out of diff breather?

I have oil constantly dripping from the front diff breather pipe, any ideas? Is it heat that causes this? Question

When everything is spinning in the diff its quite chaotic and the oil will be thrown to hell and back so it could just be it is blowing out the line, that said its not the norm...

Sounds like the levels too high, and when it gets hot the oil expands to drips out the breather.... If you fill your own diffs then you have to make sure that the car is perfectly level... if it isn't then this can effect the level in the diff and cause the problems your describing.... Whistle As long as it's coming out the breather then there isn't too much to be concerned about... if it's coming form the drive shafts or diff nose then it is normally a blocked breather causing the problem Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... My indie did the oil level on the ramps but it was doing it before this as I originally thought the diff seal was leaking. I'll get them to check the levels again. Thanks guys.

Has the breather got a hooked top.... only if it hasn't then that could be the cause... also if it has been shortened in it's life could be another thing... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

You haven't been in deep water by any chance? only it might have filled the diff up and the oil is floating on the top... just a thought.... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Sounds like it's slightly overfilled.

The diff isn't full to the plug, it's a measured amount. If the garage didn't know this then they may have overfilled it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Diff's are filed with a measured amount of oil (available in the wiki) not up to the top till it runs out of the fill hole .Drain and refill with the correct amount and then see if it still comes out of the breather , I'd put money on it not .

And the confusion is that on the early BMW FF's the fill plug IS the level, so you fill it until it comes out...

This confuses garages that think they are all the same....!!!! Pete

There is a landrover technical bulletin regarding this as I had the same on my 04 4.4. I'm away so can't post it as there are several causes but the way I solved mine was to drain and refill with the correct amount of oil which is different to rave.
Other solutions were dependant on the orientation of the outlet on the diff itself.
My breather is tucked under the plastic cam cover and doesn't look like the picture.
The picture looks more like my transmission breather
