My personal opinion for what its worth... Like for like, the 405 is not worth a £20k premium... As nice as they are, I wouldn’t pay a huge premium to sit in one... Bow down

That's because you regularly get to sit in them for free ! Very Happy

The 405 will give you more performance and refinement and is generally nicer to drive. There is more rear legroom but you lose the practicality of being able to tumble the seats for a longer flat load space area. The 405 mirrors don't fold as much so 405s are pretty tight in normal single garages if that is relevant for you. If you want to drive off road some of the 405 wheel sizes do not fit suitable tyres.

I would not buy the 3.0 405, even in my small rural dealership they have had several engine replacements, see threads elsewhere on here re seizures. Maybe newer vehicles are better. I have seen some pretty scruffy older 405s and would not regard an older 405 as being worth £20,000 odd more than a late 322 in good condition. Only Range Rovers since 1988

You buy what you can afford and what seems like value to you. The L322 is still a really good car but the L405 is just a bit better in almost every area. I appreciate people have had problems with some 3.0 tdv6 but I've had three and none of them have missed a beat and they perform great in real world driving.

Is it worth £20K over what you've got already? That just depends on whether you can afford it and whether you like it enough but you'll find the cost of the TDV6 and SDV8 very similar for used examples. And as for the extra money....don't forget it'll be worth a lot more than your old one come trade in time; so my advice for what it's worth is treat yourself but drive both first and buy from Land Rover because their prices can be keen if you wait for the right one and you get the all-important warranty.

Looks like it's just sold at around £45k, about £10k less than you could pick up from a dealer. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Not really rob there is a 10% charge to the auction company then vat at 20% which makes it more expensive than a main dealer and you don't get any warranty just bought as seen £49,500.00 then another 10k in vat crazy to pay that much
Also this is the second time it was listed original auction finished on Thursday it was sold for 46k but reading between the lines don't think they where aware of the vat so it was rushed through again for the Friday

Have a good look at the new 2017 Road Fund License rules before you purchase, it may be cheaper to get on registered early 2017 before the changes

I've just bought a 2013 sdv8 vogue from main dealer.

I've had a L322 in the past.

I wouldn't even dream of contemplating of running a expensive and complex car like either of them without LR warranty now.

I got burnt (my own fault) with the L322 but it didn't alter the fact that the risk of buying private for such a complex and expensive car was too big.

And when you get to over £50k I think it's a no brainer.

As for engine, the tdv6 and sdv6 still seem to have total failure issues. So playing percentages the sdv8 should be less hassle.

And I like my power and feel that there is no replacement for displacement Smile

But you should defo try both engines, see which you prefer (sdv8 has dynamic response).

Also, more modern design and safety features with L405 (such as roll over/roof crush).

Defo drives and rides better than L322 but I don't think it feels quite as special as L322 when your sat inside I think it has better looks and presence outside.

Also L405 is now due mid-life makeover (rumours are MY18 is that).

premium is now not so massive, there is about 10k between the top 322 and the bottom 405 approved used now. Whistle

won't be long before the 405s get into the sub 50k at a franchised dealer Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
