Just like the government-mandated CO2 obsession was the driver for passenger car diesel development, the government-mandated NOx and particles obsession will be the end of it.

Most people aren't willingly going to give up the fuel economy benefits of modern diesels, so the powers that be will decree that they do.

Just caught up with this and am surprised by the responses. The main advantage of the 3.0 over the 5.0 is that it is a much cheaper option! Living in London, I only cover 4-5,000 miles and am not really that interested or affected by the alleged savings in running costs (let alone all the kerfuffle over diesel generally!).

My 4.4 petrol Vogue has been terrific, so I was delighted by the return of a 'basic' petrol engine. That said, it may be a while before I make it to a 405!

As an aside, I was looking at getting an RRS SCV6, and had a long chat with the local dealer's sales people.
