Battery rcommendations for a 2005my TD6

I need yet another replacement battery for my L322. Last time I fitted a Yuasa 5000, which replaced the previous yuesa 3000. I do have a parasitic drain of about 250ma, which I need to be to the bottom of, but what battery is the current recommendation for this model?

My online research has brought up two interesting points.

1. Avoid Yuesa, which is odd cos I thought they were top quality batteries
2. Fit AGM

Anyone care to comment on the above, or throw their own thoughts into the mix?

I purchased the best Bosch one from Eurocarparts last year around August time, My original battery had lasted nearly 6 years so was well overdue changing ( was starting to get silly random warnings - and went flat if car not used for a week). Bosch S5 with a 5 year guarantee - not cheap but under £200 with discount code at the time. Also plug a charger (CTEK MXS10) in a few times through the year as my average mileage is about 1500 a year.

AGM's are for the 405's is my understanding.
I have a 2007 sc and recently changed my 5 year old Bosch S5 for another S5 015 Bosch Car Battery 12V 110Ah Type 020 S5015 at £140 from Tayna

I just fitted one of these to my mates TD6 2006 RR and it’s been great so far and cranks it over like it’s starting a moped.

Bosch and Varta are the same factory, only the bosch is more dosh. VARTA is what LR fitted in the factory, so instead of fitting a LR battery with a little Vatra badge and a big price tag, fit Varta battery without the LR bit and save around 50% Shocked

And the answer to your question is get a silver Varta 020 and you'll have factory fit Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

There are a lot of online retailers at a similar price, but they all want extra to deliver, the ebay is included Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Right chaps, listen up......

AGM will only work on late 2010-2012 cars

The charging system on all 2002-2010 cars is not setup for AGM batteries, which require a higher charge voltage, so fitting them is a total waste of money and time. Furthermore an AGM battery is only warrantied for 3 years, most lead acid batteries are 5 year. And charging a AGM battery at 14.1 volts can actually damage them and reduce their life.

AGM is designed for stop / start eco systems on later cars (bluemotion) the ffrr is not fitted with these systems, so AGM isn't needed.

The 020 is the largest size battery that can be fitted into the battery box of an L322, it will fit in all models, but it can be a tight squeeze on later models due to some ECU's that get in the way, but they will fit!

Varta was Land Rovers original choice for the L322, and is therefore OEM, but there are plenty of reputable manufacturers of that battery size Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Whistle So why do the 2011-2012 ffrr's charge at 14.7 volts? Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I am still very much drawn to an AGM after doing lots of online research. I don't think the charging regime of a 2005 L322 will cause an AGM any problems. Having said that, Miggit does put up a very compelling argument for the Varta above, so I will give the Varta a whirl this time and try an AGM next, if I need to replace it again.

Thanks all for your input. Thumbs Up RR History

I had an 020 AGM in (Varta H15), that failed within 12 months. This is in a 2007 SC. If you go AGM make sure you can return it locally.
