The motor on my o/s side step has seized. No problem, I have a spare...

Except the old one is seized into the bushing, so it's not simply a matter of removing it. I've tried, but I can't get it out.

So. I also have a spare front bracket. But there's a problem with that as well...

The pin appears to be jammed in that.

aluminium is a fairly soft metal so you could try drilling it out.. ... - .- -.

Try a local blacksmith or metal working shop, they usually are very useful in extracting and manufacturing parts, certainly things like pins etc.

Yes, I was thinking of drilling it out. But I don't seem to be able to manage it without damaging the sliding bushing. Is there any way of getting a replacement for that?

the trick to drilling is to drill a smaller diameter which leaves a thin outer sleeve of aluminium ..you then collapse this sleeve inwards ... ... - .- -.

Hi @Squirrel; Thanks for posting this; I am planning a refurb of my side steps soon as the drivers side, which is obviously used the most, is developing a jerky action. I’m interested to know how your refurb goes so please keep us all updated.

Please would you be able to share the part number of the electric motor as I’d like to price up a replacement.

Also, would you happen to know if the motors are handed or can they be swapped over from O/S to N/S and visa versa ? TDV8 4.4 2012

Did you manage to get the old motor removed? I dismantled mine at the weekend to find my motor had let in water so I too need to replace it. I dont think these can be removed manually so Im going to try a 20 tonne press to see but its not ideal as mine already have cracks in the castings which I need to weld up.

I replaced a step motor and it was a hell of a job! It's an interference fit and I ended up cutting the bracket off around it (very carefully) with an angle grinder! It also has a flat on it, which makes it even trickier.

I'll look up the part number for you when I go out to the car - I've just got it back from the garage. I've got a shiny new motor for the O/S, but no way of fitting it as yet!

There are two different motors, I'm afraid, one for each side.

Nope. I wasn't going to try, I've got a spare bracket but that has the pin wedged in it. We tried getting the motor off the old bracket just in case, but same problem there.

Thanks! I'm just going to leave it for now until I have some more time - I've spent ages messing with it this past couple of weeks. My garage has offered to fit fixed side steps to replace the deployable ones - not a chance!!

If anyone is interested - I've just found side step brackets for the L322 on AliExpress. From China. I doubt they're any good, but I've ordered one anyway, just to see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Are the late L322 motors and the L405 really that different. They look very similar. I can find loads of L405 copies on euro sites but all the ones for the L322 (LR004807) are all genuine and stupid money. I have found a pair on uk ebay which is £200 plus shipping plus £70 import charges so roughly €400, which is a bit high

I don't know about the motors, but the brackets look quite different. I'd put money on LR altering the motors slightly between the two variants so that one doesn't fit the other.

If anyone's interested, I resolved the problem by buying a part off AliExpress - £76. It wasn't perfect and required a bit of fiddling with the motor to get everything to fit, but I now have two fully functioning side steps.
