I did a lot of research into this before deciding to rebuild my own as per the thread link Alistair has posted above. One company I was impressed by was NWS Motor Services of Whitchurch. They have bearing shells, conrods & cranks manufactured specifically for themselves. Went over (once I'd rebuilt mine) and saw the owner Nathan who is a thoroughly nice bloke and knows the 448dt inside out.

Probably at the dearer end of the market, but you get what you pay for when dealing with these engines. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Hi DM

In that case I'm very glad I didn't! My friend who skimmed my 448 heads knew of a company called Motorcast who NWS bought and they turned out good work apparently.....

When I was looking I balked at the 10k miles warranty, that's about 2-3 months commuting for me. Currently at 6k since I rebuilt mine just before Easter.

Have you had dealings with NWS? L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

As per Dolphinboy's post...do you know what caused your engine to seize? It seems very dramatic to have happened out of the blue. 2012 TDV8 Westminster in the New Forest

200,000 miles, always serviced regularly, never bullied, just had oil cooler and egr done, started one day, ticking noise, drove 3 miles, seized, preliminary inspection showed white metal on the outside of a dry looking oil filter, indicating oil pump failure. Gutted, maintained regardless, ex JLR Lease car, Jackie Stewart first keeper, full spec Overfinch Autobiography, thought we had a bit better working relationship than we actually had. Upon careful consideration there is no other vehicle within £20,000 of this things value that has the build quality, ability or comfort.

I wonder if the oil pump failed because it was destroyed by bearing metal in the oil after bearings were damaged from contamination when the oil cooler was off.

Probably no way to find that out or prove it, I’d say.

I've got a spare block rods and pistons in std size, but I fear you'll be looking for a crank too, and genuine are pretty impossible to find.

Incidentally I've still got a shortblock on order since December from JLR, still no update on it's availability and that's with a FRED being raised with JLR, acecpted Vin and vehicle marked as VOR. So basically I wouldn't even bother going that route. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I agree but perhaps worth talking to the workshop that did the oil cooler work to see what they say.

I wonder if it is worth trying Ford for engine parts?
I don’t know of any Ford models that used the 4.4, but wouldn’t cost anything to ask.
