You're right, with hindsight I should have taken it straight back to LPR, I'm sure everything would be different now if I had.

I think that is your problem right there: I have no idea what the addtl distance is, but it seems to me as if you saved yourself a couple of miles in exchange for throwing down a couple of hundred quid each time. Given the kind of service LPR seems to offer, I can't imagine that they would have charged full price on these repairs - unlike your local dealer who gained nothing on the sale and could therefore not afford to take a hit on the repairs.

And now that you have thrown down what I imagine to be a not insignificant amount of change for a new loom - which was at the root of all problems to begin with (aside from the service items) - you're getting rid of it. Confused

You purchased a 4 year old used car. There's an inherent risk in that. Unfortunately, you purchased a previously screwed up 4 year old used car. Now that you've fixed it at a much greater expense (to you) than necessary, the logical decision would be to drive it. If it continues breaking down, it really might be a lemon. Then sell it. I'd consider that to be unlikely, tho. (The same goes for Jsb's post on the first page, btw. Of all the items he listed, only 1 -bluetooth- has to do w/LR. Everything els is just a used car. If he didn't like it, he shoulda left his money in his pocket.)

And take your wife for a quick blast up to 130mph and tell her to quit whining. Laughing

I didn't state it was LR's fault, it was the dealers fault that compounded the issue by stating they would fix them and then Censored it up. The problem is that a luxury brand should be represented by dealers that work to those standards, I get a significantly better service from the dealership I take my other car!

Ignore it JSB, what he said about my situation was nonsense too.

I think he's just trying to be confrontational

Ohh, thanks Andy. Actually, 'she' really wasn't trying to be confrontational. Razz

As a lawyer (sorry) who's been involved with cars all his life and owned managed repair shops in the past, I do feel I have a little insight into the workings of cars, automotive consumers, and their relationships. What I offered was really my honest opinion based on what you wrote: 1.you possibly carry a portion of the blame for the severity of your situation by not immediately returning to LPR when problems arose and 2. if the loom is replaced (and does seem to be the underlying cause of all evil), now is the wrong time to get back out of your RR.

And, in regard to no longer wanting to drive on a motorway in the RR, you need to tell your wife to Ben Dover.

(just kidding - really. If my wife read this she'd kill me Whistle )

Jsb, sorry if my comment came across more harshly than I intended. Being treated like royalty before the money is on the table and dirt after is frustrating at the very least.

It's time for an update and a bit of humble pie. The guys at LPR gave my car a thorough medical and found a couple of issues, all now fixed. We got the car back on Friday afternoon and over the weekend I've done everything possible to break it but it's perfect. It actually feels like a different car and is doing over 4 mpg more than before (they found a problem with the rear diff but I never thought it would make so much difference).

Anyway, I'm not sure how much to post about what Lookers have done to resolve all this (but let's say my faith in the car is restored, a big smile is back on my face and Jeremy is the man!!)

More importantly, I want to appogise for having a hissy fit about all this, I'm sure we've all said things in anger we've regretted in hindsight and this is certainly the case for me. Sorry forum and Lookers - Jez, if you ever find yourself in the badlands of Croydon in need of a drink give me a shout.

Andyd, I have followed your post and thread with some concern, since reliability is of paramount importance. This is more so if (like us) we haul a 3-tonne caravan from Perth to Darwin, (around 4,500 km), and the nearest LR dealer is in either of those two cities!
(I wonder if James from lookers would like to open a service centre Downunder??)
Good news for you.
