Admiral & Elephant stunningly cheap but?

Are they any good? Any catches?

I had a letter today from Tesco regarding this years insurance renewal.. it's gone up from £173/month to £180 now that I have a years no claim Shocked

So I tried some comparison websites which returned Elephant and admiral as the cheapest coming in at £83.25/month and £84/month respectively, that's half the price!!

Does anyone have any experience with either Admiral & Elephant?

I've done some research and it turns out they are both owned by the same company so I assume the same people will be dealing with a claim.

Also "the green insurance company" came in at just over £7000, worth asking for a quote on a supercharged 5ltr over the phone for a laugh? Laughing

I use Admiral for a multicar policy and they are good. No quibbles over claims but they do try it on at renewal time. Each year they quote me more than a "new customer price", so I ring up, argue for 15 mins and then get 10% off the new customer price (although this failed in 2009, so I just didn't renew and just took a new policy out online for the "new customer price"). Their compulsory excesses aren't the kindest, but you easily save more than them in your annual cost.

Be careful as Elephant and Bell don't have the same package as Admiral. I'd just do what I do and not renew, then sign up as a new customer. It's basic contract law and there's nothing in the T&C's against it.

They should be ok but some are 10 month policies and they say they give you another years discount after the 10 months. This is fine if you want to stay with them but if you did want to move to another insurance company then you will find that some do not accept the no claims discount.
At the end of the day its down to price but beware of what you buy. I've worked in insurance and there can be quite a bit of difference in policies. We hope we never have to claim but you never know. Once a Blue, Always a Blue

I've been with Admiral for a number of years now.

I've never made a claim, so I have no idea what they're like when making a claim. As others have said, renewing is a bit of an ordeal each year.

I've just renewed a few days ago. Was quoted £808. Admiral did not offer a quote on any comparison site, but Elephant, Diamond & Bell did (all part of the Admiral group), all were around £670, so Admiral 'agreed' (reluctantly) to match.

My golden nugget of advice is to make sure you try Confused dot com if you're looking to purchase an Admiral group policy. They own the comparison site, so naturally pay themselves the least commission. Researching my first Range Rover purchase

I'm with Admiral for the multi car policy. Good cost saving and the legal services are good at chasing after third parties who don't admit to driving into my 3 series that was parked at the time Smile they were cheaper than previous quotes. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."
