United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged Supercharged Java Black
New exhaust on the Supercharged and it's very very good!

So I decided I wanted just a little more poke from my SC, as I'm well, just a bit daft I guess. Also I wanted an exhaust I knew I could replace in bits as my OEM one was just about to rust through and I didn't want to buy a whole new thing. I did a bit of searching around and there's various off the shelf aftermarket systems, but since I'm a little daft I decided a cat-back wouldn't be enough.

I settled on a local(ish) company based in Sheffield who have previous history of race cars, but also are also unfortunately a Max Power preferred partner and supply the exhausts to Pimp My Ride UK. While this doesn't sound a great start, the thing that got my interest was that they manufacture everything onsite, including their own mufflers, and are very receptive to suggestions.

I went for a full manifold-back system in 2.5" 304 stainless steel with a pair of sports cats, resonators, free-flow mufflers (just larger resonators) and to increase the already excellent flow had an X-pipe welded in.

The car sounded absolutely mental at full throttle, and cruising off the throttle was silent, but unfortunately creeping out of the drive, pottering around town and cruising at 70mph there was a dreadful drone that sounded like someone playing a single note on a trombone right behind your headrest.

I went back today and their idea to tone down the drone was to put a mesh cone into the exhaust to try and "slow down the flow", being a kind and courteous person I went with this suggestion, which quickly proved to be no different. They were a little bit stuck at this point, but fortunately I know a little about physics/acoustics/engineering/electrical circuits and had done some research.

So when I suggested they weld in an adjustable Side-Branch Resonator (Google it) they seemed a bit surprised by the idea, but were open to suggestions. They immediately got to work on a pair of SBR's for me and also removed the front resonators and replaced them with straight pipe (the car had melted the packing material within 900 miles rendering them useless).

After a few hours work they gave me the car back and I went out for a drive with the sales rep that had been looking after me. The results are astounding, pretty much ALL of the drone is gone and the car sounds even more mental when you boot the throttle. The SBR's need a little tweaking, as the exhaust gas in a SC is a LOT hotter than my calculations had expected. However since they made the SBR's adjustable I can change their resonance cancelling qualities.

I'm going to upload a video at some point, but unfortunately my iPhone video catches a lot of the noise, but none of the low-down growling. When I can sort this out I'll post a video that truly represents the car.

As you can see, I went for OEM sized tailpipes, and it looks reasonably stock unless you notice the shiny back boxes. Due to the sports cats it's had a remap and all of this along with the adjusted SC drive pulley the car has a bit more power to match the noise Smile

Looks ace.

Looking forward to the upcoming video release. Sure it will be an 18 certificate.

I had a stainless performance exhaust on my XR4x4 and took it off after 3 days and went back to stock, due to droning on part throttle.

Not simple this exhaust malarky !!

Here's the iPhone video http://www.flickr.com/photos/65618533@N04/...0047833302

The car is idling when the video starts, I rev to around 2.5k and then hold it steady at about 2k then rev the tits off it (you can hear it bouncing off the limiter). It sounds a bit more tinny than it really is, and I'm hoping the new piping will mellow a little over the next week or so.

It's my iPhone case filtering out the deep tones unfortunately. It's far deeper than that vid gives the impression of. Best part is that it's silent on the motorway, until provoked ...

Just had my exhaust tweaked today to reduce the volume. Due to the snowy conditions it's hard to tell if the inserts inside the mufflers have reduced performance, but the overall timbre is there but with about 1/3rd less volume.
